Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (機動戦士ガンダム00ダブルオー Kidō Senshi Gandamu Daburu Ō?) is the 11th installment of Sunrise's long-running Gundam franchise.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Series

The series is directed by Seiji Mizushima and written by Yōsuke Kuroda. The character designs were meticulously crafted by Yun Kōga, and the captivating musical score is composed by Kenji Kawai. Notably setting a precedent within the Gundam franchise, Gundam 00 diverged from tradition by presenting its 50-episode narrative in two distinct 25-episode seasons. This innovation marked a significant departure from the usual format of Gundam series. Making its debut on November 24, 2008, the English dubbed version of Gundam 00 was introduced to audiences in the United States through Syfy, featuring a special premiere event with consecutive episodes airing on the same day.

Season 1

In the distant future of the year 2307 AD, a critical shift has occurred in the global energy landscape. Fossil fuels, once the backbone of civilization, have dwindled to near-extinction, leading to an intricate web of energy imbalances. The survival of humanity hinges on three colossal solar power systems, each under the control of a multinational power bloc: the Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations (Union), the Human Reform League (HRL), and the Advanced European Union (AEU). This newfound energy source, however, has turned into a privilege reserved for the powerful blocs and their allies, leaving smaller nations in the shadows of conflict. The result is an incessant eruption of warfare on a global scale as lesser nations grapple for access to the scarce fuels and energy.

The countries whose economies were once sustained solely by the fossil fuel trade now find themselves plunged into the depths of poverty. Some of these nations even view the solar power systems as a threat to the divine "promised land," inciting a relentless twenty-year-long conflict known as the Solar Wars. Amid this chaotic backdrop, a response emerges in the form of a paramilitary entity equipped with an arsenal that defies conventional weaponry. This organization wields four remarkably advanced humanoid mobile suits named "Gundams," bolstered by an enigmatic technology referred to as the "GN Drive." They adopt the name Celestial Being, and their audacious objective is no less than the complete annihilation of war itself through unconventional means.

"Mobile Suit Gundam 00" intricately weaves the narrative threads of Celestial Being's Gundam Meisters: Setsuna F. Seiei, Lockon Stratos, Allelujah Haptism, and Tieria Erde. As these four individuals immerse themselves in the maelstrom of conflict between the three superpowers, they embark on a resolute mission to reshape the world's destiny. Their journey is one of transformation and defiance, as they battle not only against the formidable forces of the Union, HRL, and AEU, but also against the very essence of war that has long defined human history.

Four years have elapsed since the triumph of the United Nations Forces over Celestial Being. In the wake of this victory, humanity has taken a pivotal step by establishing the Earth Sphere Federation, a unifying body that stands as a testament to global cooperation. Within this new order, an independent law enforcement entity known as the Autonomous Peace-Keeping Force, or A-Laws, emerges to supplement the existing ESF Army. This force wields authority distinct from the ESF Army, effectively yielding a higher level of control.

Endowed with an unparalleled mandate, the A-Laws assumes a multifaceted role. It is tasked with not only fostering greater cohesion among the world's nations but also with enforcing humanity's collective will. Furthermore, the A-Laws undertakes the daunting responsibility of neutralizing any form of resistance, be it organized groups or clandestine cells, utilizing whatever means they deem necessary. Regrettably concealed from public awareness is the A-Laws' utilization of their unchecked might as a vehicle for quashing personal liberties, doctrines, and diverse ideologies. Under the deceptive banners of "unity" and "world peace," they employ inhumane methods to suppress dissent and individuality.

In this landscape of hidden motives and masked intentions, Celestial Being resurfaces. Illuminated by a keen understanding of the A-Laws' misuse of power, the organization rises anew from the ashes of its prior defeat. Their purpose is unequivocal: to obliterate the A-Laws and guide the world back onto the authentic trajectory of peace. Armed with the revolutionary gifts of Aeolia Schenberg—the Trans-Am and Twin Drive Systems—Celestial Being aspires to rectify its past missteps and reconcile the harm inflicted by the A-Laws. In this pursuit, they find a steadfast ally in the form of the resistance movement Katharon.

However, unbeknownst to both Celestial Being and the A-Laws, a shadowy third faction emerges on the stage—the Innovators. This enigmatic group manipulates the conflict between the two visible contenders, all while asserting to be executing Aeolia Schenberg's true blueprint. Their intricate machinations cast a pall of uncertainty over the true course of events, prompting questions about the authenticity of their intentions and the actual path to a harmonious world order.

In the year 2314, a decade after the ceasefire that ended the tumultuous conflicts of the Celestial Being organization, the world has entered an era of tentative peace, with the newly formed Earth Sphere Federation overseeing global affairs. The once-divided factions now work together to ensure stability among the planets.

However, an unprecedented threat emerges from the depths of space: a mysterious extraterrestrial force known as the ELS (Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape-shifters). These metallic beings, capable of assimilating both technology and organic matter, begin a relentless assault on Earth and its colonies, posing a threat unlike anything humanity has ever encountered.

Celestial Being's former members - Setsuna F. Seiei, Allelujah Haptism, Tieria Erde, and Lockon Stratos - now lead peaceful lives, but they are drawn back into the conflict when the ELS invasion escalates. The Earth Sphere Federation deploys its new line of advanced mobile suits, including the GNX-IV, Reborns Gundam, and Virtue II, in an attempt to defend against the ELS.

As the battle rages on, Setsuna encounters a mysterious phenomenon that connects him to the ELS leader. He discovers that the ELS are not simply invaders, but beings that seek to communicate and understand humanity. Setsuna, driven by his ideals of peace and understanding, becomes the bridge between two worlds, attempting to find common ground.

The movie showcases epic battles, including the Virtue II's tactical deployment, the sleek and agile GNX-IV's dogfights, and the awe-inspiring Reborns Gundam's powerful assaults. The ELS constantly adapt, mimicking humanity's mobile suits and tactics, resulting in breathtaking and intense clashes.

The original Gundams - Exia, Dynames, Kyrios, and Virtue - are revived and upgraded to meet the evolving threat. The culmination of the battle sees a joint effort between the Earth Sphere Federation's military forces, the reassembled Celestial Being team, and even former adversaries like the Innovators.

As the ELS assimilation threatens to consume both Earth and the ELS leader, Setsuna, with the help of his comrades and the Innovators, devises a plan to establish communication and coexistence. This final confrontation is fought not only with advanced weaponry but also with the power of understanding and empathy.

In a climactic showdown, the Celestial Being team, piloting the reconfigured and transcendent 00 Qan[T], locks into a transformative battle with the ELS leader. Setsuna's connection with the ELS leader unveils the true purpose of their invasion - to seek unity and explore the cosmos together.

The movie concludes on a note of hope and unity, with humanity's newfound understanding paving the way for a future where different civilizations cooperate for mutual progress. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer serves as a reminder that even in the face of the unknown, the bonds of communication and shared ideals can shape the destiny of civilizations.
