Gunpla Master Grade MG 1/100 Gundam Ex-Impluse Review
The Gundam Ex-Impulse, built by the leader of the Blue Brigade, Manfred von Sakazaki, has been made into an MG kit with a robust customization to withstand high mobility. Based on the MG Force Impulse Gundam released in May 2008, the exterior parts of each part of the body, the Ex-Silhouette on the back that can be transformed into a cruise mode and high-speed mobility mode, and the original beam rifle are reproduced with new modeling.
Parts & Set Contents
The molding color is based on white and gray, and red and yellow are used for each part. The Ex-Silhouette on the back is reproduced in a dark gray molding color, and a slightly calming coloring has been reproduced.
The seal is only enough to compensate for the head sensor. Most of the color coding has been reproduced in the bare assembly. The joints and interior are made of gray molded ABS, and KPS is used for some parts such as the back Ex-Silhouette.
Polycap uses the same PC-130B as MG Impulse Gundam for each part. The elbow and knee joints are made of ABS parts, and the joint strength is high. The sole is high-heeled and has a small contact surface, and the Ex-Silhouette on the back puts a slight load on the back, but it is relatively stable and can stand on its own.
Shield, Adler Type II (Zwei), Anti-Armor Knife x 2, Beam Saber Blade x 2, Silhouette Flyer, Finger Parts (for open hands: left and right, for holding weapons: left and right, for gripping hands: left and right), multipack, Various landing gears (2 types for chest flyer, 3 types for leg flyer, 3 types for core splendor, 3 types for silhouette flyer), 2 missile launchers for core splendor, various joint parts for display (for chest flyer, leg flyer) for Ex-Silhouette, Core Splendor, and Gundam Ex Impulse), and a pedestal for Ex-Silhouette is included.
Many surplus parts such as MG Force Impulse Gundam and MG Aile Strike Gundam VerRM are included. A water transfer decal including the original design including the emblem of the Azure Brigade and the title mark of "A (Ace)" is included.
Remove the Ex-Silhouette and use only the Gundam Ex Impulse body. Please note that the wings of the back core splendor are not stored. I will look at it while comparing each part with MG Impulse Gundam.
Comparison: MG EX-Impulse Gundam vs MG Impulse Gundam
Head Unit
The internal parts are the same as the Impulse Gundam, but the exterior is all new for Ex-Impulse. The overall balance has been adjusted by partially adding molds and fins. The antenna is also newly built with a design similar to Strike Gundam.
The front and back of the helmet can be combined to form seams from the top to the side. When erasing, post-saddle etc. are necessary. The twin eyes and the sensors before and after the crest are color-coded by pasting stickers on clear parts.
Body Unit
The abdomen is the same as the Impulse Gundam, but the exterior around the chest and central cockpit is new. It has changed to a rugged design with unevenness. The orange line around the air intake also reproduces the color coding of the parts.
Abdominal cockpit hatch can be opened and closed. fuselage internal frame. It has the same structure as the Impulse Gundam. The cockpit hatch is modeled only for the shutter.
Waist Unit
The side and rear armor are the same as Impulse Gundam, but the front armor is new for Ex-Impulse. The proportion balance has also been slightly adjusted due to the thick and edgy armor.
Side armor can be deployed. The same M71-AAK anti-armor knife as Impulse Gundam is stored inside. The anti-armor knife can be deployed. The grip is mechanical and the blade is sharp. The back of the waist armor is shaped by a mechanical mold. Each can be expanded widely. The torso can be separated into upper and lower parts like Impulse Gundam. The inner core splendor is exposed.
The connection between the lower body and the abdomen has been changed from a poly cap to a KPS part, and the shaft has been changed from a ball joint to a round cylinder shaft, so that the upper body does not warp even if the unit is installed on the back.
Arms Unit
The shape of the base of the upper arm and forearm is the same, but the armor of the shoulder and forearm is new. It is sculpted with a mechanical and thick design. The hand parts have also been changed from ones with movable fingers to recombination types.
Internal arm frame is same with Impulse Gundam. Most of the internal frame is made of ABS.
Both the upper arm and the forearm are cylindrical and there is no seam. The newly built forearm armor is also finely color-coded by parts. Only the thumb of the hand parts can be moved, and the remaining 4 fingers can be recombined.
The shoulder armor is also a new mechanical one. There are no backing parts in particular, and the structure is simple. The parts are not divided, so it might be a good idea to add depth to the mold by stripping it.
Legs Unit
Impulse Gundam's armor is used as it is around the knees, but armor such as the thighs and shins is new. A mechanical mold is molded on the surface, giving it an overall thickness.
Leg internal frame still same with Impulse Gundam.
The thigh is a combination of front and back, but there is no seam. There is a seam at the back of the calf below the knee, but it is difficult to erase, so it seems better to mold it with a step.
Rear thrusters move up and down. When you bend your knees, the armor on your thighs and knees will slide.
Sole Part
Most of it is newly built from Impulse Gundam, and it has changed to a compact silhouette. Only the heel is diverted from Impulse Gundam. The Impulse Gundam had different shapes on the left and right, but the Ex-Impulse is the same on the left and right. The cylinder shaft is extendable.
The mold shape on the back of the leg is the same. The toes can be moderately bent. The back is exactly the same as Impulse Gundam. The core splendor body is exposed.
Silhouette Unit
Therefore, it is possible to install Force Silhouette and Blast Silhouette. Ex-Silhouette is an original unit that realizes acrobatic maneuvers. While partially diverting Force Silhouette parts, it is impressively shaped with white and black molding colors.
Most of the base is borrowed from the Force Silhouette, but the saber handle and angular wings on the top are newly created. It has a mechanical design that is conscious of air resistance. The saber handle can be moved forward, backward, left and right with a ball joint connection.
At the base of the wing, armor like a small engine is newly built. The inside of the rear thruster is also molded.
Wing is diverted from Force Silhouette. Color coding by two-color parts is reproduced. Appropriate panel lines and molds are formed on the surface. It is strong immediately after assembly, but since the connection part is made of ABS, there is a possibility that it will become loose and sag.
The upper wing is also a diversion from the force silhouette. The thrusters at the bottom are also diverted from the Force Silhouette. The base is also color-coded with parts such as ducts. The inside of the lower duct is shaped by a slit mold.
The thruster connection at the bottom can be moved flexibly with a ball joint, but the armor can also be deployed on the Ex-Silhouette side. The wings can be moved up and down, both large and small. It is a hinge connection, so be careful as it sometimes comes off when you move it.
The main wing can be folded compactly. Each part of the arm rolls and the wings can be moved flexibly. The angle of the wing base can also be changed, and the silhouette of the wing can be greatly changed.
Side-by-side comparison with MG Force Impulse Gundam's Force Silhouette. The wings and base are the same as those of the Force Silhouette, but with the addition of the wing base and arms, it has changed to a wider unit.
Side by side with the base MG Force Impulse Gundam. Although there are parts of the same shape, the impression that the volume of the upper body has increased has given it a massive look. In terms of design, Force Impulse Gundam feels a little old, but Ex Impulse has successfully corrected that.
Movability And Articulation
The movement of the head does not change much up and down, but it seems that the movement to look up is slightly restricted.
Movement to the left and right is limited by Impulse Gundam's interference, but Ex-Impulse can swing without interfering as much as Force Impulse Gundam. The angle at which the arm can be raised is slightly restricted, but it can still be raised as high as a Y. Elbows can be fully bent with double joints. The back and forth swing of the shoulder can swing forward a little wider.
The rotation of the waist is slightly twisted because the armor interferes. Knees can be deeply bent. Due to the difference in length between the thigh and the knee, it seemed difficult to reproduce the tatehiza in a beautiful posture. The leg width to the left and right and the range of motion of the ankle are almost the same as Impulse Gundam.
As a summary of the range of motion, since it is an MG, each joint can be expanded widely. There are places where movement is restricted due to the combined transformation gimmick, but it seems that you can pose it to some extent.
If you want to float and display, remove the crotch parts and assemble the attached display joint parts. The removed crotch part can be attached to the side of the joint part.
Weaponry and Acessories
An original beam rifle designed to control air battles. A thick gun barrel is designed. Impulse Gundam's saber handle is used on the tip, and Beam Rifle parts are used for grips and sensors.
The main body part is a simple combination of left and right, but the top and bottom joints are molded with steps. The base of the foregrip slides back and forth, and the grip can also swing left and right. The sensor also moves up and down.
A saber blade can be mounted on the muzzle. Adler type 2 can be mounted on the rear armor. There is an Ex-Silhouette wing, but it can be equipped without any particular interference. The fixing strength is reasonably high and it seems that it will not come off easily.
The shield has the same shape and thickness as Impulse Gundam. White is reproduced with a clean coloring base. It can be used as a landing gear for chest flyers. Four sides of armor can be deployed. The overall silhouette has changed, and the dark gray armor inside is exposed to make it look better.
Joints and grips on the back are movable. A multi-pack is included, so by removing the core splendor and assembling it on the back, you can also equip horizontal dowel connection units such as Aile striker.
The Adler II type holds the finger parts rearranged. Since the finger parts are firmly attached to the hand parts, stable holding is possible. When holding it, I thought it would be easier to hold the grip after combining the hand parts and finger parts first.
Since the waist is connected on a single axis, the upper body does not bend, making it easy to pose.
The shield can also be fixed to the forearm with a dowel and held firmly by having the grip held. It's easy to interfere with the shoulder armor and back wing, so I'll change the placement and pose it so that it doesn't interfere.
Holding both hands feels a little awkward, but you can reproduce it without any problems. All you have to do is add the hand parts to the grip.
The beam saber can also be stably held by fixing the hand parts with dowels. The beam saber blade is molded in clear pink. The shape of the back wing can be changed freely, so it's nice that you can pose it in various ways.
The joint strength is high and there is almost no polo, so it is easy to pose. Rather, the joints are so stiff that they require strength to move. It seems that it is easier to take a pose if it is a little weak.
The shape and proportions are perfect. It will be enough just to make it simple. The exterior is a simple one-part configuration, so it is lightweight. Since the mold is firmly inserted, it seems that it will be a kit that stands out quite mechanically when inked.
Chest Flyer, Leg Flyer, Core Splendor, and Ex-Silhouette can be separated and transformed in almost the same way as the regular Force Impulse Gundam. The Ex flyer's wing placement is slightly different. First of all, one way from the core splendor.
The core splendor separates the upper and lower halves, pulls it out from the inside of the fuselage, and deploys the nose and wings. Unfold the main wing until it clicks and locks.
Parked state can be reproduced by assembling the attached landing gear. Attach the included missile launcher to the bottom of the wing. It has been reproduced with a sober but tasteful coloring of white and gray.
The canopy can be opened and closed by reproducing with clear parts. A pilot figure is sculpted inside. By using the attached joint parts, it is possible to display the Core Splendor alone.
It is lightweight, easy to handle, and easy to display. The fixing strength of each part is high, so the shape does not collapse. The chest flyer is arranged to cover the head by moving the separated upper body arms.
The shield removes the upper and lower armor and assembles the landing gear parts. After attaching the upper armor and attaching it to the forearm, the transformation into a chest flyer is complete. By assembling the attached joint parts at the rear, you can display the chest flyer alone.
Since the shape of the shoulder armor and the beam rifle are different from the Adler II, the silhouette has changed slightly compared to the Force Impulse Gundam. The gray molding color is the base, and the military feeling is also emphasized.
Since there is no locking mechanism in each part, it is easy to change the placement of the arms, so be careful. For the leg flyer, bend your knees in an inverted S shape and extend your toes. Install the landing gear in the shin dowel hole exposed by bending the knee. On the front side, the cover parts on the waist are removed and the landing gear is attached.
This is the only transformation to a leg flyer. By attaching the attached joint parts to the crotch part, it is possible to display it in a floating state. Please note that it is easy to spread the legs a little because it is assembled in the crotch area.
It looks surreal, but when you reproduce the flight scene, it looks like it. There is no particular locking mechanism, but the joint strength is quite high, so it can be displayed without losing its shape.
The silhouette flyer can also reproduce the parked state by assembling the attached landing gear. Like Core Splendor, it has cool achromatic coloring. The rear vernier can move up and down. A hard point is molded at the bottom, and it can be used as a nose by pulling it out and assembling it to the Ex-Silhouette.
A distinctive design reminiscent of a shuttle. By using the attached joint parts, it is possible to display the silhouette flyer alone.
Ex-Silhouette opens the wings to the left and right, and deploys the saber holder to the front. Lower thrusters extend rearward. Then assemble the silhouette flyer. This completes the transformation to the Ex-Silhouette.
There is no landing gear for Ex-Silhouette, and the attached pedestal is used to reproduce the parking state. Ex-Silhouette will be a display using joint parts for silhouette flyer. A stable display is possible without losing its shape.
With a design that looks like an updated force silhouette, you can feel the speed when you reproduce the flight scene. It is also interesting to change the position of the wing and change the expression.
Summary
The MG Force Impulse Gundam, which had a strong impression of being slender, has a massive appearance with a mechanical and thick exterior, and the proportions have been adjusted accordingly, and the overall balance is improved. The ex-silhouette on the back gives a powerful pose, and the white and gray coloring is cool and well-coordinated, making it look cool.
There are not many points to worry about, but the joints are stiff, so a little strength is required when posing. It's a luxury problem, but it's nice that the pose doesn't collapse. Also, the Ex-Silhouette wings are hinged, so be careful as they may come off when you move them.
The combination transformation gimmick is faithfully reproduced and excellent, and the design of the Ex-Silhouette is also high. There is also a vague Aile Strike Gundam-like atmosphere.
