This is a review of Bandai action figure Gunpla Chogokin ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam [ Ver. GCP ] from Gundam China Project.

Action Figure Gunpla Chogokin ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam [ Ver. GCP ] Review

A superalloy based on a statue built in Shanghai, with the same proportions, coloring, and markings.

Head Unit

The head unit resembles an old plastic model with its outline and eye design. While the protruding mask and unpainted duct raised concerns, the eyes feature a delightful light-up gimmick similar to the Fukuoka ν Gundam. Additionally, the metallic paint adds to its overall appeal.

Body Unit

Compared to the metal build CONCEPT 2, the torso of this Chogokin Freedom Gundam is thicker, shorter, and more massive. It lacks any distinct features but features numerous panel lines and molds on its white part.

Arms and Legs Unit

The limbs and body shape lack noticeable modifications, but the inclusion of several panel lines gives it a unique aesthetic. Asymmetrical shoulder markings and deployable leg thrusters add to its charm.

Wing Backpack

The wings can be spread out similar to the CONCEPT 2 version. Deployment is straightforward by simply extending them.

The deployment methods for both cannons remain consistent with previous versions. The grip is also movable. The High Mat Full Burst mode is achievable, as seen in recent releases.

Articulation and Movement

The neck's movement is average, while the waist's swing width is limited. The shoulders can be raised high, and the elbows and knees provide sufficient bending capability. The hip joint can be moved forward and backward but requires caution to avoid damaging the back part of the thigh. Grounding performance is average.

The front chest parts are removable, revealing a battery cover. By turning on the switch located at the back of the waist, the eyes and main camera light up. Although the eyes are not particularly noticeable, the main camera emits a flashy light.

Weaponry and Accessories

This set includes pedestals and a movable beam rifle foregrip, which can also be mounted behind the waist. The shield stands out with its prominent red marking. The two-point joint and grip mechanism allows for secure holding of the accessories. The landing gear provides stability for the wings.

Similar to other Chogokin figures, this Freedom Gundam allows weapons to be placed on the left and right sides of the pedestal using weapon holders. Wrists and stand joints can also be fixed. While the figure itself is impressive, it falls slightly short compared to the CONCEPT 2 version.

Movability and Articulation

The figure's movement, especially when attempting complex poses, left something to be desired compared to recent standards. I encountered a disappointing issue where the back part of the thigh was damaged while trying to pose it. The size of the rifle makes it challenging to insert the muzzle through the hole in the shield. The side armor can only move forward and backward, preventing it from opening in an inverted V shape. Two types of stand joints, located between the crotch and on the back of the waist, ensure ease of use.

Summary

While the metal build CONCEPT 2 boasted perfect proportions and arrangements for the Freedom Gundam at this scale, this Chogokin version has its own unique appeal with a solid statue-like appearance and dark panel lines.

It stands reasonably well, although the chin feels somewhat hollow, the unpainted duct detracts from the overall facial aesthetics, and the movement falls short compared to modern figures. Attempting certain poses, like an inner thigh pose, can risk damaging the parts. Personally, it didn't meet my expectations.
