P-Bandai Gunpla MG 1/100 AMX-004DMD Qubeley Damned Review
Introducing the remarkable Qubeley Damned, a kit that follows in the footsteps of the renowned Polypod Ball and Gundam Stormbringer. Priced at 5,400 yen, this masterpiece is exclusively available for order on Premium Bandai.
The kit comes with a pair of sleek saber blades, serving as the only accessories included. Enhancing the aesthetics, the package features both foil stickers and water transfer decals, perfectly designed to adorn the eye-catching parts.
Being an evolution of the MG Qubeley, many parts remain the same, contributing to a sense of familiarity. While most of the Qubeley's runner has been retained, the A runner's wrist section has been omitted, preventing assembly as a standard Qubeley model.
Derived from "Gundam Build Divers GIMM & BALL's World Challenge," the Qubeley Damned, designed by Nozu, is now available as an MG kit. This Gunpla takes inspiration from the Qubeley, showcasing massive manipulators on both arms that double as fearsome claws.
This kit builds upon the foundation of the previously released MG Qubeley. With its enlarged forearms and manipulators, streamlined abdomen, and distinct heel-shaped ankles, the Qubeley Damned exhibits an evolved and refined aesthetic, significantly altering its proportions for the better.
A harmonious combination of white and black colors characterizes the Qubeley Damned. Notably, the binder mold showcases a framed color scheme, adding a touch of tranquility to the overall design. Unlike glossy injection, the white components sport a classic plastic appearance, with molded colors meticulously capturing the essence of the color scheme. The kit relies predominantly on molded colors, reducing the need for stickers except for the intricate eye sections.
Head Unit
Upon inspecting the head, one immediately notices the introduction of a new white exterior part. Crafted with intricate detailing, the twin-eye component boasts a clear inner portion, complemented by a seal for added authenticity.
Body Unit
The chest remains consistent with the original Qubeley design, featuring a functional cockpit opening mechanism. However, the absence of a pilot figure is a minor disappointment.
The abdomen, sporting a gunmetal hue, features a new design that echoes an MH-style aesthetic. The slim profile enhances the overall visual appeal.
While the front armor has been innovatively reimagined, the side armor retains the classic Qubeley configuration. Novel block-shaped elements have been introduced underneath the front armor, adding a fresh dimension to the design.
Impeccable attention to detail is evident in the lining parts, maintaining continuity with the original Qubeley design. Even the funnel container showcases improved exterior detailing, boasting slightly increased length while retaining familiar gray components.
In terms of functionality, the funnel container remains unchanged, retaining its swinging capability. The binder section introduces new details, altering the design of specific parts for an updated look.
Arms Unit
The forearms undergo a significant overhaul, incorporating new parts that enhance the overall detail. The division between the front and back of the white exterior is seamless, with molded seams that exude precision.
Notably, the enormous manipulator boasts an intricate thorn-like design, skillfully avoiding any excesses. Despite its considerable size, the meticulous molding preserves a balanced aesthetic, steering clear of being overly ornate.
Individual finger movement is a standout feature, offering independent articulation. However, only the root ball joint is articulated, limiting the extent of expressive hand poses.
Legs Unit
With the exception of the ankles, the leg design remains consistent with the standard Qubeley. A striking red pearl on the thigh accentuates the predominantly black and white color palette, adding a dash of vibrancy.
Distinct heel-shaped ankles lend the kit a unique stance, complementing the corresponding toe design. Minor seams on the heels do little to detract from the overall appeal.
Maintaining consistent detailing, the kit encompasses lining parts for the toes and an intricately designed heel area featuring laminated fin-like elements.
Movability and Articulation
The articulation, though familiar from the Qubeley Mk-II, offers fluid movement, thanks to the unaltered joint structure. Notable features include a 90-degree elbow bend, complemented by fine-tuned articulation through the ball joint connection. The new waist design permits slight rotation and twisting due to its slender nature. Shoulder swing width remains unchanged, although some exposure of polycap is evident.
The lower body's hip joint limits the extent of leg opening due to the ball joint mechanism. While the knees afford a 90-degree bend, they might feel slightly constricted in comparison to contemporary kits.
Regrettably, stand joints are absent in the new parts. Those seeking a floating display can utilize the provided U-shaped joint from the action base.
An observation to note is that due to the larger arms, the elbow ball joint may occasionally detach. A simple adjustment, such as increasing the ball's thickness, addresses this concern.
Weaponry and Accessories Option Set
To augment the visual appeal, the forearm parts can be removed to accommodate the attachment of a saber effect. Despite the saber being a common inclusion in MG kits, the Qubeley Damned's unique manipulator size may give a sensation of slight brevity. The build process is reminiscent of the Qubeley, allowing for saber removal. However, the wrist dimensions restrict movement to a degree.
With shared funnel attributes, the connection hole measures 2mm. Display options include stand attachment or fastening to a 2mm plastic rod, effectively creating a striking floating effect.
A juxtaposition with the previously released Stormbringer highlights the distinct volume variations among different parts.
Summary
In comparison to the earlier introduced Qubeley Mk-II, although the coloration shifts to red, the modeling closely mirrors the standard Qubeley. Notably, the increased height results from elongated heels and abdomen, offering a unique presence.
In conclusion, the MG Qubeley Damned effortlessly marries the essence of the original MG Qubeley with contemporary enhancements. While its imposing size presents some articulation challenges, the striking manipulator design, combined with the mesmerizing spread-arm silhouette, makes this kit an unforgettable masterpiece.
