Bandai Gunpla FW GUNDAM CONVERGE #23 Review
XVX-016RN Gundam Aerial Rebuild
This edition's standout is the XVX-016RN Gundam Aerial Rebuild. Noteworthy for its increased volume compared to standard aerials, it's roughly the size of a regular bullet. Like typical aerials, the bit is detachable, and it can be faithfully reproduced in its bit-on form. Additionally, it boasts the capability to mount a beam rifle on its back. What sets it apart this time is the redesigned antenna and beam saber on the back of the head, now in the form of runners, mirroring the style of the #23 normal aerial.
MSA-0011 S Gundam
While a booster unit version was introduced in ♯Plus02, the standard model is featured in this regular release. Despite a minor flaw with paint on the neck, the overall cleanliness of the body and precision of markings compensate for it. The side profile reveals its substantial size, complemented by beam smart guns and stabilizers. Notably, the package includes two types of arms as accessories, allowing for the display of the Beam Smart Gun on the back. The ♯Plus02 variant, equipped with a booster unit, repurposes parts of the head and upper body.
MSZ-006A1 Zeta Plus [ Test Color Type ]
Previously included in #08, the Z Plus is revisited in a striking test color edition. Faithfully replicating the envisioned cream body color and orange accents, the package also includes a replacement right hand grip without a hole. Although utilizing a new mold, the head size appears larger, and some individual differences are noticed, like the curved toes.
MSA-007 Nero
Well-known from its appearances in ROBOT Spirits, the MSA-007 Nero makes its three-dimensional debut in Converge. Capturing the distinctive body shape and color, the representation stays true to the source material.
RGM-89 Jegan
While not recalling much, this marks the first 3D rendition of the RGM-89 Jegan. Impressively balanced proportions and the iconic green color align with expectations. Reflecting on the old version, it's apparent that the current model boasts more refined molds.
Luggun & Magella Attack
This release could have solely featured the Magella Attack, but the inclusion of Luggun makes for a generously filled box. Uncommon for non-MS models, the finished product exudes a surprisingly cute aesthetic. Luggun comes with a special pedestal, and Magella Attack can be displayed without one. The turret of the Magella Attack has a 45-degree rotation, with the cannon offering both downward and upward movement. Special pedestals and supports are provided, allowing for a dual display in the space of one pedestal. Notably, Magella Attack securely attaches to the left rear part, and Luggun's radome can be inverted. For separate display, a special support for Magella Attack is included.
XVX-016 Gundam Aerial
Essentially identical to #Selection 03, this model differentiates with an overall darker paint color. Retaining the ability to detach the bit from the shield and assume a bit-on form, it also permits bit attachment to the rifle tip for an extended barrel. The rifle can be mounted on the back, offering versatility. A side-by-side comparison with #Selection 03 reveals distinct color variations, and some may find the previous iteration closer to the intended image. It's worth noting that previous issues with paint quality were addressed through customer support.
Summary
In conclusion, this review covers the FW GUNDAM CONVERGE #23. Marking the return of the regular bullet series after a nearly two-year hiatus since November 2021, this edition introduces models tied to the 10th-anniversary #SELECTION and #Plus series. The diverse lineup spans from Mercury to Sentinel, Reverse Char, and One Year's War, featuring both classics and new models. Despite minor paint imperfections, the stability and intricate gimmicks of the models, especially the elaborate Luggun & Magella Attack, make this release captivating.
