P-Bandai Gunpla METAL BUILD Proto XN Unit Review

The METAL BUILD Proto XN Unit is the focus of this review, providing an in-depth analysis of its components and functionality.

Set Content

The package includes the core unit, GND Buster Sword III, rifle attachment, two types of GN capacitors for connecting Proto XN units, and more.

Proto XN Unit Assembly

This form showcases the seamless combination of each part, allowing for versatile display options. Without the rifle attachment, the back side reveals clear parts, providing assembly flexibility. Integration with Gundam Astraea II is effortless—simply insert it into the backpack's designated hole.

Display Options

Whether using the double drive test backpack or connecting with a GN capacitor, careful consideration is needed. The core unit arm's retraction may cause imbalance, requiring a stand for stability.

Customization and Connectivity

The shoulder drive unit accommodates a connecting capacitor, enabling attachment of the Proto XN unit to the left shoulder. Its standalone display mimics the iconic silhouettes of Seven Swords or Quanta.

Articulation and Flexibility

The core unit's articulated arm allows for flexible movements, facilitating independent standing even when carried on the back. With a hole behind the core unit, connecting two units is also an option.

GND Buster Sword III

In twin sword mode, the saber handle on the main body is utilized, offering a loose grip. Transforming into rifle mode requires gripping with the left hand, while great sword mode demands both hands due to its weight.

Handling and Stability

Die-cast material comprises most of the core unit, contributing to its weightiness. However, caution is advised as it can easily detach. Twin sword mode, despite instability, is manageable with a secure grip.

Texture and Finish

The gray part's texture discrepancy is noted, attributed to the pearl-coated molding color on the main body and a less glossy finish on the Proto XN unit.

Summary

The METAL BUILD Proto XN unit impresses with its sturdy construction, abundant die-cast use, and aesthetically pleasing silhouette. Despite a higher price point, the quality and playability make it worthwhile. However, challenges arise in handling due to mismatched handle sizes, necessitating auxiliary support. A recommended addition would be a specialized handle for enhanced user experience.

The METAL BUILD Proto XN unit, a crucial component of Gundam Astraea II, was released individually to maintain affordability for consumers purchasing multiple items.
