P-Bandai Gunpla METAL ROBOT魂 SPIRITS <SIDE MS> Infinite Justice Gundam 20th Anniversary Ver. Review

The METAL ROBOT Spirits Infinite Justice Gundam 20th Anniversary Ver. boasts a body similar in molding to the Strike Freedom, yet it stands out with its altered coloring and additional markings. The face, reminiscent of anime illustrations, bears a sharpness akin to the Stofuri model. However, the crest part's slight distortion, as seen in the standard version, is a minor disappointment. The darker main color pink this time around gives the face a more robust appearance, and the coloring across each part is executed with precision.

Enhanced Detailing

Significant enhancements in markings are evident, particularly around the abdomen and under the left and right ducts - areas previously unmarked in the standard version. The waist area thought to mirror the Strike Freedom’s gold markings surprisingly also includes ample gold detailing. The arms show little variation, but the legs boast numerous additional markings and gold-colored ducts on the calves, offering a more flamboyant aesthetic than the standard model. Notably, the shoulder markings are asymmetrical, adding a unique touch.

Functionality and Features

The feet are equipped with holes for securing the model to the lifter. The lifter base and wings retain their expandability feature. However, removing the head to raise the lifter was notably more challenging this time, though reattaching it was simpler. With the lifter raised, the full-bodied figure stands impressively, aided by the use of die-casting in the main body. The beam cannon is adjustable, moving up and down. Fatum-01 is a standout feature, with a joint for a stand attachable to its backside. The main wings and hanging grip are both movable.

Additional Components

The model comes with a set of redesigned pedestals. The beam rifle features enlarged markings on the barrel, and its waist-back mounting gimmick remains unchanged. The shield sees an increase in markings and maintains its original attachment method. The beam blade can be attached to the shield’s tip or used separately as a beam boomerang. Two beam blade sizes are included, along with a Grapple Stinger that replicates the injection state using the provided lead wire. The claw at the tip is articulable. A beam shield, developed by replacing the center part of the shield, enhances the model’s defensive capabilities.

Comparisons and Movement

Reflecting on the main story, the normal Infinite Justice’s color seemed more appropriate for brighter scenes, like the Orb battle, while this version’s pink suits darker scenes, like the space battle climax, more closely. Similar to the 20th Anniversary Strike Freedom, this model features abundant gold markings, making it significantly flashier. The model's movement remains unchanged due to the identical molding. The shoulders allow for considerable movement, extending up to about 80 degrees. The beam boomerang’s blade is notably large and impactful. Various poses, including kick poses, are achievable, and the beam saber connects seamlessly. However, waist rotation is somewhat limited when the lifter is upright.

Summary

The METAL ROBOT魂 SPIRITS <SIDE MS> Infinite Justice Gundam 20th Anniversary Ver. shares many similarities with the 20th Anniversary Strike Freedom, particularly in terms of color changes and added markings. The darker pink color feels more true to the movie, lending the model a more authentic and less souvenir-like appearance. In terms of playability, such as movement and options, it mirrors the standard model. Since the original was already well-received, this version also satisfies with its aesthetics and functionality. A personal wish is for a version with a different coloring, as the color of Infinite Justice from METAL ROBOT Spirits significantly diverges from the movie depiction, which isn't to my liking.
