Bandai Gunpla SD Gundam EX Standard STTS-909 Rising Freedom Gundam Review

Rising Freedom Gundam made its debut in the SD Gundam EX Standard series simultaneously with HGCE. Priced at 660 yen, it offers a simple yet detailed kit.

Accessories and Stickers

The kit includes a high energy beam rifle, Flash Edge G-3 shield boomerang, and two Versina beam sabers. While only one foil sticker is included, numerous coloring details rely on stickers, demanding additional effort in painting.

Characteristics and Construction

Despite its appearance in the SD Gundam EX Standard series, Rising Freedom retains its characteristic wings and body shape. However, due to the series' simplicity, some armed gimmicks are omitted, though the transformation is still possible.

Articulation and Construction Details

Joints are made in SDEX format, resembling those used for Legend BB. The construction is straightforward, with movable elbows. The color scheme is minimal, relying heavily on stickers, and additional painting may be necessary.

Head and Torso Features

The Rising Freedom's distinct features, such as the slitless mask and antenna, are faithfully reproduced. The torso, connected with a Ball Joint, includes compatibility for various packs.

Wings and Mobility

The wings feature separate parts for the nose and boosters, allowing potential for diverse color schemes. The wings can be expanded, but the Sturmswacher and booster areas are noteworthy. The Sturmswacher, however, is integrated with the wing.

Legs and Articulation

The legs have Ball Joint ankles but lack movable knees. The range of motion is relatively good in the upper body, with a wide shoulder and torso swing. While the knees are immobile, the ankles allow for dynamic poses.

Equipping Weapons and Color Customization

Equipping weapons adds flair to the model, and additional stickers enhance its appearance. Certain areas, especially the back, may require detailed painting for completeness.

Weapon Replicas and Transformation Gimmick

The high energy beam rifle is thin, lacking stickers but requiring painting. The Flash Edge G-3 Shield Boomerang includes a sticker and a 3mm hole for display. The Versina beam saber, though molded in white, requires painted beam blades.

Transformation into MA Form

The model can transform into MA form by removing the white nose unit and reattaching the wing. While a simplified transformation, it maintains stability and aesthetics.

Summary

The backpack is compatible with HGCE items, enabling additional customization. The SDEX series allows for weapon combinations and kits' integration, resembling the HG series. Despite its simplicity, Rising Freedom Gundam is a reasonably sized and constructed SD model with well-replicated characteristics, making it a visually appealing addition to any collection.
