Bandai Gunpla HGCE 1/144 ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam Review
The machine from the movie Gundam SEED FREEDOM is being made into kits one after another, and this time, the Mighty Strike Freedom has arrived. Priced at 2,970 yen, this kit includes several accessories such as a high-energy beam rifle, the anti-ship sword "Futsunomitama," a replacement antenna part for the disruptor, a saber grip, left and right flat hands, an Egret beam shield effect, and two saber blades. There are no extra parts. Stickers include foil and plastic stickers to compensate for some of the color coding.
Overview of the Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam
The Mighty Strike Freedom, piloted by Kira after the Rai ZGMF-1017 Mobile Ginn Freedom in Gundam SEED FREEDOM, has been made into a kit in the HGCE series. This model features the Strike Freedom Nishiki with the MDE262S Proud Defender backpack attached. The main body is similar in design to the Strike Freedom, but with notable differences in the details. The Proud Defender on the back sports a white and gold color scheme, differing from the previous wings and presenting a noble appearance.
Design and Structure
The kit is entirely new, with no parts reused from the HGCE Strike Freedom. The head structure and shape have evolved, giving it a sharper and cooler look. The kit uses the latest construction techniques, with no polycaps or ABS, making it structurally advanced.
Wings and Mobility
When deployed, the wings operate similarly to the previous Freedom and Strike Freedom models, but the new gold wings are sandwiched between white wings that reveal the Meta Rick pink frame, a significant feature. The rifle can be attached to the waist, differing from the Strike Freedom's rail gun positioning. Without the MDE262S Proud Defender, the model appears slightly sturdier than the HGCE Strike Freedom. The color scheme is largely reproduced with molded colors, with stickers used for the beam rifle, the nose area of the Proud Defender, and various sensors.
Detailed Components
Head and Torso
The head details are compared with the HGCE Strike Freedom, featuring a dividing line on the forehead for the disruptor and separate parts for the sensors on top. Clear parts are used for the twin eyes and the sensors. The torso is equipped with an "AQM/S-2028 Tvashtri ultra-high impulse cannon," with changes in the waist armor and a slide-lock type backpack connection.
Arms and Legs
The arms, including the forearms, have a more pronounced line, and the shoulder armor now uses light gray with molded seams in a stepped shape. The legs are thicker around the calves compared to the Strike Freedom, with constant deployment of the calf thrusters. The hip joints are designed to swing downward, making it easier to close the legs.
MDE262S Proud Defender
The Proud Defender features a 3mm hole for standalone display. The outer wings have a sharp triangular silhouette, and plastic stickers are used for some parts. The wing structure allows for increased range of motion compared to the Strike Freedom.
Weapons and Accessories
High Energy Beam Rifle
The "MA-M21KF High Energy Beam Rifle" can be used with a 3mm stand. While similar in design to the Strike Freedom's rifle, there are differences in the dowels for waist attachment.
Rail Gun and Beam Saber
The "MMI-M16XE5 Forance Asta Rail Gun" folds similarly to the Strike Freedom's but with the saber grip attached on top. The beam saber grip is removable and prone to falling off if the rail gun is loosened.
Anti-Ship Sword and Beam Shield
The "Anti-ship Sword Futsunomitama" features a jet-black blade and is attached to the Proud Defender. The "MA-M03D Beam Saber Akutarakeruta" is dual-wielded with the Futsunomitama. The "MMI-X220 Egret Beam Shield" is made of polarized material, fixed by sandwiching with red parts.
Hyperion Beam Cannon Disruptor
The "EQM-Y148 Converged Hyperion Beam Cannon Disruptor" is deployed by replacing the antenna parts, with stickers supplementing the color coding.
Summary
The backpack's two-hole type allows for various customizations, including attaching parts from the Strike Freedom to recreate the Strike Freedom Nishiki. The compatibility with other Freedom packs adds to its versatility.
In conclusion, the HGCE ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam is a highly detailed kit with a beautiful finish and advanced construction. The interchangeable backpack, improved gold molding color, and well-designed weapons make it a satisfying model for enthusiasts, with no major complaints.
