P-Bandai Gunpla HGAC 1/144 OZ-10VMSX-2 Gundam Burnlapius Review
The HGAC G-UNIT series introduces a new kit, the Gundam Burnlapius. Priced at 4,180 yen, this kit is available for order from Premium Bandai. Despite being a premium product, the package comes in full color and the manual includes weapon descriptions similar to regular retail products.
The Gundam Burnlapius kit comes with various accessories, including an Assault Bayonet, an EMF Shield, a right gun-holding hand, a left flat hand, arm extension parts for Duel Mode, a stand joint, and two types of shield joints.
Additionally, parts to build the Accelerate Rifle from the Gemini 01 are included as surplus and can be used freely as extra parts.
Stickers and Extra Parts
The kit includes foil stickers for the red sections of the backpack, various sensors, and detailed chest color separations, along with marking stickers. There are many leftover parts from the HGAC Gemini 01, though some parts are omitted. The head is completely leftover and might be useful for customization.
Overview of Gundam Burnlapius
Based on the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing DUAL STORY G-UNIT, the Gundam Burnlapius is an enhanced and improved version of the Asclepius piloted by Kratz Shelby. This version features significant detail enhancements and a flashy redesign, making it quite different from its predecessors.
Design and Structure
The Gundam Burnlapius retains the prominent shoulder armor and armored legs of the Asclepius, but with added volume for a more imposing silhouette. The distinctive Golem Claws on the shoulders add to its intimidating look. The kit uses the HGAC Gundam Gemini 01 as its base, reusing joint structures and some parts. The joints are a combination of KPS and PC-002 & PC-6, with no ABS used.
Color Separation and Transformation
The majority of the kit's color is reproduced with molded colors, and even small yellow parts are separate pieces. Although some stickers are used, they are minimal and the overall reproduction is sufficient. The kit can transform into the Duel Mode, resembling the High Gogg, by swapping parts.
Head Detail
The head has some Asclepius-like features such as the large crest but with four antennas for a more extravagant look. The helmet design is significantly different, with the back resembling the AMS-119 Geara Doga's face.
Body Detail
The torso differs from the Gemini with detailed chest parts. The back connection holes are of a two-hole type.
Backpack and Shield
The backpack has a rounded, shell-like design and can hold a shield on the bottom. The interior has fin-like details. The chest for the Duel Mode includes separate parts for the chest ducts, with stickers for the hidden sensors and rear ducts. The shoulder joints use KPS instead of polycaps for better holding power.
Arm and Leg Design
The extended shoulder armor has a curvy design with volume, and the yellow parts are separate pieces. The forearm armor swings due to transformation mechanics, and thruster units are also separate parts. The Golem Claw attaches with thick shaft joints, allowing rotation and swing.
Articulation and Stability
The leg armor extends below the knee, resembling a shell, with sharp, separate parts for the calf fins. The foot armor swings to accommodate movement, with no hollowed-out parts underneath. The kit retains the articulation range of the HG Gemini 01, but the bulky shoulder design can interfere slightly. The top-heavy design means the waist and hip joints may struggle under the weight.
Comparisons and Weapons
Compared to the HGAC Asclepius, the Burnlapius has bulkier armor and added Golem Claws, giving it a more voluminous appearance. The color changes from purple to green. The included weapons are compact relative to the body, with an assault bayonet that has undergone significant design changes, resembling a lance.
Duel Mode Transformation
Transforming to Duel Mode involves several steps:
- Remove the Golem Claws from the shoulders.
- Store the arms in the shoulder armor space and cover them with outer armor.
- Extend the Golem Claw with articulated parts.
- Remove the head and cover the torso with the backpack shell part.
- Slide the chest armor to expose the sensors, using stickers for detail.
- Combine the assault bayonet and shield with joint parts and attach them to the back.
- Adjust the calf thruster covers and retract the ankles for the final Duel Mode form.
Summary
The HGAC Gundam Burnlapius is a detailed and heavily modified enhancement of the Asclepius, transforming into a design reminiscent of the High Gogg. While it retains some structural elements from the Gemini series, its increased weight necessitates joint adjustments for stability. The high-detail mold and flashy design make it a standout kit, offering a unique transformation experience and a visually striking presence.
