P-Bandai Gunpla MG 1/100 F90 Gundam F90 Next Type Review
The MG F90 series features various mission packs, and the latest addition is the N-Type kit. Unlike the usual pack-only kits, this set includes the F90 2nd Unit (Roll Out Color) and the Hull Fighter, a mission pack that doubles as a fighter jet. The package is a monochrome type, but part of the instruction manual is in color. However, it does not include any descriptions of the unit.
Accessories and Content
The kit comes with a Beam Rifle, N-Type Exclusive Beam Rifle, Shield, replacement parts for Hilt Funnels, Saber Effects, Hilt Funnel Saber Mode Effects, Hull Fighter, two types of joints for attaching mission packs, Stand Joint, Spare E-Pack, gun-holding hands, and standard holding hands. The joints shown in the bottom right of the picture are surplus parts. Additionally, an Action Base 4 is included. The kit also includes foil stickers to supplement the color separation of sensors and some detailed parts, as well as water-transfer decals.
F90 Body Overview
The kit features the F90 2nd Unit in Roll Out Color. Previously, the F90II was released with the I-Type mission pack, but this kit represents the pre-modification form, looking nearly identical to the F90 1st Unit. The red hardpoint covers make it more eye-catching than the 1st Unit. Most parts of the kit are reused from previous versions.
Differences from the 1st Unit
Apart from the color scheme, the major difference is the newly created joint parts for the saber rack, necessary for the Hull Fighter attachment, which extends the width on both sides. Other detailed ducts are also separately molded parts, maintaining the precision typical of MG kits. The joints remain unchanged, with some parts made of ABS.
Head
The head design is the same as the 1st Unit, with finely detailed ducts and separate parts for the Vulcans.
Torso
The torso is also unchanged, featuring a mesh-like chest duct and numerous hardpoints.
Backpack
The only notable difference is the backpack's shape, with slightly separated saber racks due to new parts.
Arms
The forearms can rotate, and while the hardpoint details are not color-separated, the molds are present. The wrists share the same interchangeable finger system.
Waist Armor
The waist armor includes backing parts for a sturdy build.
Legs
The legs feature various intricate parts, including thrusters and ducts, color-separated down to the yellow details. The Achilles tendon area uses varnish tubes, and the red soles match the hardpoint covers, providing a cohesive look.
Feet
The soles are well-detailed and color-separated as before.
Aside from the saber rack, it shares most parts with the 1st Unit, with the red hardpoints and soles giving it a different impression. The articulation range remains the same.
Comparison with F90 II
The F90 II has undergone significant modifications, resulting in a silhouette closer to the F91.
Playing Without the Pack
Even without the pack, the F90 can be enjoyed as a standalone model. The different color scheme from the familiar F90 1st Unit gives it a fresh look.
Weapons
The kit includes basic weapons such as the Beam Rifle, shared with the F90 1st Unit.
Shield
The shield is also reused and shares the same color as the F90II.
Beam Sabers
Beam sabers are included, with the same clear blue color.
Hull Fighter
The Hull Fighter is the new component in this kit, transforming the F90 into the N-Type (Next Type) configuration. The Hull Fighter, a manned fighter with forward-swept wings, docks with the F90. It features attachable Hilt Funnels and a rifle mountable on the nose.
Hull Fighter Details
The Hull Fighter features a cockpit and distinctive wings. The duct interiors and the yellow line on the nose are achieved with stickers, while some small duct interiors require painting for full color accuracy. The rifle can be mounted on the nose, which also serves as the shield. The beam cannon muzzle is separately molded. The canopy is a clear part and can open, with a detailed pilot figure inside. The red lines on the wings are color-separated for a striking appearance. The fighter can be displayed independently or attached to the F90.
Docking Hull Fighter with F90
Transforming the Hull Fighter involves folding the wings and rotating the cockpit and wing base. The nose shield part is rotated downward, and the frame of the chest block is extended. The Hull Fighter is then placed over the headless F90, attaching to the backpack hardpoint.
Completed N-Type
The docking configuration significantly increases the volume around the chest and back. Despite the added bulk, the F90 can still stand on its own. The shield can be suspended from the backpack, and hardpoints remain available for further customization.
Detailed Chest Ducts
The chest ducts have a unique grid design, with black interiors that can be supplemented with stickers.
Hull Fighter Integration
Some seam lines appear, but the fit and detail match well with the F90. Despite the additional armor, the articulation remains mostly unhindered.
Weapon Configuration
The Beam Rifle features six Hilt Funnels, with removable and storable parts. The shield can hold the funnels, and there are extension parts for using them as separate weapons.
Summary
The MG Gundam F90 N-Type Review showcases a versatile kit with the F90 2nd Unit (Roll Out Color) and the innovative Hull Fighter. The F90 2nd Unit is largely reused but adds a new rifle. The Hull Fighter is intricately color-separated and integrates seamlessly. The N-Type features Newtype-exclusive equipment, expanding the playability with combined mission pack configurations.
