Bandai Gunpla action figure ROBOT魂 Spirits <SIDE MS> RMS-099 Rick Dias (Quattro Bajeena color) ver. ANIME Summary
The height is similar to the previous version, but the ver. A.N.I.M.E. has proportions closer to the anime, with significant changes in the head and torso balance.
Head
The head is much larger and has a different shape compared to the old version. The mono-eye retains its metallic paint but is brighter with finer cross lines, enhancing its appearance.
Armaments
The Vulcan Phalanx, previously a replacement part, can now be deployed as is. Additionally, the mono-eye, which was fixed before, is now movable.
Torso and Body
The torso is wider and thicker, matching the anime's depiction more closely. The overall color is slightly brighter, again aligning more closely with the anime.
Waist and Limbs
The waist area has been significantly bulked up. While the limbs are not as thick as the torso, they are slightly bulkier. The legs, in particular, have noticeable changes in the length of the thighs and calves. The shoulder has a central hole for the effect parts included with the black Rick Dias releasing in August, though I personally would have preferred this hole to be absent.
Backpack
The backpack can move up and down, with the side thrusters being axially movable. The connection is a ball joint, allowing for removal.
Articulation
The neck can rotate about 30 degrees to the sides, and the waist has a large swing range if the backpack is raised. The shoulders can be pulled forward and up, allowing for a high lift. The elbows and knees bend deeply, and the hip joints are extendable for wide forward, backward, and sideways movement. The ankles are extendable, and the front part of the calves can open, improving ground contact. Additionally, the shoulders can be pulled out forward by about 90 degrees and can also be lifted up in this state.
Accessories
Full Armament
- Clay Bazooka: The rear magazine can be slid down for removal, and the grip is fixed. It can be mounted on the backpack.
- Beam Pistol: Comes with a dedicated effect. The rear part of the barrel can slide, and the rear grip can be pulled out for backpack mounting.
- Vulcan Phalanx: Now deployable rather than replaceable, showcasing technological advancement.
- Beam Sabers: Includes two types of blades—straight and curved.
Additional Parts
A grip for the removed binders is included, although the space is narrower as it is shared with the angled grip for the beam sabers. As usual, thruster effects are included and can be attached to the lower part of the binders and the holes in the calves. A replacement wrist part for the Clay Bazooka is included, although it doesn't come with its effect; the effect is included with the black Rick Dias releasing in August. The grip of the Clay Bazooka is fixed, making handling a bit awkward. The kneeling pose is achievable without difficulty, and a binder grip is also included.
Comparisons
Compared to the previous normal ROBOT Spirits version, the height remains similar, but the head and torso are significantly thicker, and the color has changed. As previously mentioned, the articulation is good, and scenes from the anime, such as deep crouching, can be reproduced. The color of the back of the binders and the thrusters behind the waist, which were unpainted in the old version, are now accurately represented, improving the back view's appearance. Effects for the beam pistol are included, allowing for dynamic shooting poses.
Summary
The ver. A.N.I.M.E. brings significant improvements in proportions, colors, and detailing compared to the old version, staying true to the anime. The articulation has been enhanced with more extendable joints, allowing for more flexible posing. The introduction of new gimmicks, such as the deployable Vulcan Phalanx and the movable mono-eye, showcase significant advancements. The upcoming black Rick Dias in August, followed by more ver. A.N.I.M.E. Z series units like the Mk-II AEUG, GM II, and Hizack, promise an exciting lineup ahead.
