Bandai Gunpla action figure die-cast METAL BUILD ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam [ Full Package ][ METAL BUILD FESTIVAL 2024 ] Review
The overall design is identical to the normal version. Similar to the Strike Freedom Gundam, the FES2024 version has been updated with unique coloring, and the markings have also been refreshed.
Face Design
The face retains the same sculpt, preserving the characteristic villainous look unique to METAL BUILD. However, the white color is now brighter, which slightly reduces the villainous impression compared to the normal version.
Body Unit
When viewed from below, the design elements and parts show significant changes in the white color, while the red, blue, and light blue areas have only minor color adjustments. Unfortunately, there was a small paint blemish on the silver part of the left side of the abdomen.
The waist area, along with the arms and legs, remains unchanged in design. Despite being originally released over ten years ago, the model still holds up well today.
The markings on the shoulders are asymmetrical, adding a distinctive touch to the design. The thrusters on the back are movable, and the wing deployment mechanism remains the same.
Accessories
The set includes a stand and various other accessories. The beam rifle retains its movable foregrip and scope, with the color being slightly darker. It can be mounted on the back of the waist.
The shield attaches directly over the forearm armor and features a deployment mechanism that remains unchanged. However, the internal red color has been changed to purple, resulting in a significant alteration to the overall color scheme.
The beam shield can be used by swapping out the hand guard parts. The Arondight sword also retains its deployment mechanism, with only minor color changes that do not drastically alter its appearance.
The beam cannon maintains the same gimmick, with the color shifting slightly darker.
The Flash Edge retains its original features, with the ability to attach both large and small beam blades after removing it from the shoulder.
Full Package Features
As a full package version, the set includes the "Wings of Light." The contents are the same as those from the previous standalone "Wings of Light" version.
Installation and Adjustment
The wings are installed in the same manner as before, taking up a significant amount of space in terms of height and width. The color is slightly altered, but the difference is minimal unless compared side by side.
Wing Adjustment Mechanism
The mechanism that allows for adjusting the wing angle using fixed parts remains unchanged, offering three levels of adjustment. Additionally, by changing the joint, the wings can be spread horizontally to create a wide appearance.
Comparison with Normal Version
When compared to the normal version's "Wings of Light," the roots of the normal version are slightly whiter, giving it a more vibrant look.
Comparison with Full Package Normal Destiny
When placed next to the normal Destiny in full package mode, the brighter white color of this version reduces the villainous impression. However, when compared to the FES2024 version of the Strike Freedom, the white is still darker and more grayish, making it a matter of personal preference as to which is better.
Additional shots show that the articulation remains unchanged due to the identical sculpt. The weapon gimmicks and stand-related features also remain the same.
The Flash Edge's neck and waist can rotate smoothly, and the Arondight, with its extendable tip, retains a formidable presence.
The beam cannon, connected to the backpack, has some limitations in terms of direction and angle due to this connection.
Wings Unit
Thanks to the fixed parts, the angle of the wings can be securely adjusted, avoiding any unwanted sagging. Although it's risky to leave it in such a position for extended periods, the stand and joints for the main body are sturdy, providing high stability.
The wings can bend backward at the base, minimizing interference with the main body even when the Wings of Light are attached.
Summary
This review of the METAL BUILD Destiny Gundam (Full Package) [METAL BUILD FESTIVAL 2024] highlights its distinct charm, despite the slight paint blemish. The updated paint scheme, featuring a mix of pearl and gloss colors, complements the excellent sculpt, making it a worthy addition to any collection. Although a SpecII version is likely to be released, given the original's 2013 release, it will be interesting to see if the design undergoes any changes.
