REVIEW CAPSULE ACTION GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, Bandai

This is review of Bandai CAPSULE ACTION GAT-X105 Strike Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series.

Bandai CAPSULE ACTION GAT-X105 Strike Gundam Review

This is a review of the CAPSULE ACTION Strike Gundam. It's the first series in the Capsule Action line to feature a non-Universal Century mobile suit. The proportions and mold details follow the same style as previous releases.

Head Sculpt

Considering its size, the head sculpt is decent, with sharp antennas. Although the eyes appear low in photos, it isn't as noticeable on the actual model due to its small size. However, it is disappointing that the “V-slit” detailing, present on the RX-78-2, was omitted on this model.

Body and Details

The torso features minimal modifications, and the colors are accurately reproduced. The waist area is standard, without any significant changes.

Arms and Legs

The arms and legs have a similar proportion to other Capsule Action series models. They appear slightly thicker and more robust compared to their animated counterparts. On the shoulders, there are connector holes for the Sword and Launcher Striker, which will be sold separately as a Premium Bandai exclusive.

Back and Accessories

The back includes the connection point for the Aile Striker pack, which will also be sold separately. As for accessories, the model comes with only a rifle and shield. The Aile unit is sold separately through Premium Bandai.

Beam Rifle and Shield

The beam rifle has a noticeable hollowing on close inspection, but due to its small size, it’s not too prominent. The foregrip is fixed and does not move. The shield, like the main body, features neat paintwork. It is held in place solely by its grip.

Comparisons with Other Models

When compared to the RX-78-2, the overall height is similar, but the Strike Gundam has a bulkier build. The shoulder markings are acceptable, but the lack of the "V-slit" paintwork is quite disappointing. Compared to the ver. A.N.I.M.E. Strike, this model has noticeable differences in body proportions. The quality of the white paint also reflects its lower price point of 1,500 yen. As usual, a half-clear version will also be available, but since I got the colored version on the first draw, there will be no review of the clear version.

Poseability and Articulation

The joints use the same structure as other models in the series, providing consistent articulation. The joints are relatively stiff, as seen in recent models, allowing for solid posing. The figure comes with a 3mm stand joint, and the 3mm hole on the back for the Aile Striker is easier to use.

Action Poses

  • Launch Pose: The figure’s joints allow for a wide range of motion, maintaining the quality seen in previous releases.
  • Dash Pose: The 3mm stand joint makes posing easy, and using the hole for the Aile Striker offers even more flexibility.
  • Punch Pose: The head and shoulders rotate well, and considering the price of 1,500 yen, the articulation is impressive.
  • Rifle and Shield Pose: The lack of space under the chin is a slight drawback, as it prevents the head from tilting downwards. However, the shoulder can be raised upwards, making it easy to pose with the rifle.

Summary

Overall, this is a review of the CAPSULE ACTION Strike Gundam. The proportions are slightly bulkier than in the anime, but the details and moldings are well-executed with no major issues. The paintwork on the parts that were painted was clean and precise. However, the omission of the "V-slit" paintwork, which was present on the RX-78-2, makes the head look a bit lackluster in comparison. Despite this one downside, the model's articulation is excellent, especially considering its price of 1,500 yen, making it fun to pose. I am looking forward to the Striker Pack set arriving in November.
