Bandai Review MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 28

This is a review of MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 28, which features the Strike Freedom Gundam II as the main highlight. Unlike the EX version released previously, this version is part of the regular series and offers a more budget-friendly option, with some parts of the design simplified or omitted. Despite these differences, the overall quality and price are quite reasonable.

Strike Freedom Gundam II Design & Features

The Strike Freedom Gundam II shares a similar body design with the previous EX version, though there are noticeable changes such as a smaller wing design and some color omissions, like the details on the rifle. However, these changes do not detract from the overall aesthetic, and considering the price, the model remains very well-executed.

Wings: The wings are smaller compared to the EX version, but since this model is primarily based on the Mighty Strike Freedom (my Freedom mode), the size difference isn’t a major issue.

Rail Gun: This part is also fully functional and can be displayed as intended.

Comparison with EX31 Strike Freedom: The new Strike Freedom II model is visually similar to the EX version, though there are some minor color simplifications. However, important details like the gold parts and Futsunomitama colors are faithfully reproduced.

Proud Defender: The Proud Defender accessory, though simplified in terms of color, maintains the important gold and Futsunomitama accents, making it a solid addition to the kit.

Accessories and Optional Parts

Display Stand: The model has a 3mm stand hole, allowing it to be mounted using a TAMASHII Stage or other similar stands. However, the clear base used in previous models isn't compatible here.

Joint for Combining: The set includes a joint that enables you to recreate the Mighty Strike Freedom, with perfectly matching wing sizes and an overall impressive visual appeal.

Weapons: The Beam Sabers come as part of the weapon set, and the Proud Defender can be displayed in its combination mode.

Mighty Strike Freedom Mode

When assembled in Mighty Strike Freedom mode, the model looks quite stunning, with large wings that have a strong visual impact. The addition of the Proud Defender makes the overall design more striking and adds significant presence to the display.

Other Mobile Suits in the Set

Gelgoog (Char's Custom): This is a welcome addition to the 1-Year War lineup. The Gelgoog is solidly designed with an ideal balance between bulkiness and detailed proportions. The color scheme is on point, and the shield can be mounted on the backpack.

Dilanza (Guel’s Custom): A more recent addition from The Witch from Mercury, this mobile suit comes with a heavy, imposing design. Despite its smaller size, it packs a punch in terms of sculpting and details.

Weapons: The Dilanza comes with a Beam Partisan, while the Rifle is included with the regular variant.

Transformation: The Dilanza can be swapped out with the Lauda variant using interchangeable parts like the antenna, backpack, shield, and a large axe.

Weapon Set

The included weapon set features a range of accessories that are compatible with various mobile suits in this collection:

Strike Freedom II: Comes with a Linked Rifle, Beam Shield, Beam Sabers, and a Linked Saber.

Gelgoog: Includes a Beam Naginata, which can be mounted on the backpack.

Dilanza: Comes with parts to convert it into the Lauda variant, including the shield, backpack, and a large axe.

Summary

MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 28 brings a great deal of value, especially considering the cost of the set. The Strike Freedom Gundam II may have some simplifications compared to the EX version, but it still holds up impressively. The combination of the Proud Defender, Gelgoog, and Dilanza makes this set an all-around winner.

The Strike Freedom II may not have all the colors or features of the EX version, but when displayed in Mighty Strike Freedom mode, it becomes an eye-catching centerpiece. The Proud Defender accessory enhances its visual impact even further, and the additional mobile suits, like the Gelgoog and Dilanza, provide excellent value with their detailed designs and weaponry.

The set is a fantastic value for the price, offering great quality and playability. As for future releases, the upcoming MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 29 may feature new additions like the Zieg Ax, and it would be exciting to see more suits like Destiny Spec 2 or Karla in the future.

Overall, MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 28 delivers an excellent mix of quality, affordability, and variety. The Strike Freedom Gundam II shines in its Mighty Strike Freedom mode, while the Gelgoog and Dilanza are great additions to the set. This release is a great example of high-quality, well-priced collectibles for Gundam fans.
