Gunpla Custom Build : EG 1/144 Strike Gundam by @7275183476

The EG 1/144 Strike Gundam, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @7275183476, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The Strike Gundam has always been a model that the creator wanted to build. Although they hold a relatively low opinion of the SEED series, it is undeniable that the design of the Strike Gundam itself is remarkably impressive.

As the protagonist unit of the first Gundam series of the new century, the Strike Gundam introduces stylish innovations while retaining the classic design language of Gundam. This balance earns it the title of a "Gundam with soul." It is no surprise that in the 20 years since its debut, it has been repeatedly reinterpreted and recreated.

To date, several versions of the Strike Gundam's kits have been released, which can broadly be categorized into three types:

  • HD Versions: These preserve the original style of the series (e.g., HG SEED, 1/60 Strike, Old MG).
  • RM Versions: These reinterpret the design with sharper edges and richer details (e.g., MG Ver.RM, PG).
  • Revival Versions: These derive from the "Create Strike" model, featuring a modernized yet simplistic design (e.g., HGCE, EG).

The creator personally prefers the Revival style for its versatility, both for straightforward assembly and modifications.

As for the RG Strike, it features unique artwork, with its angular lines and broad feet bearing the signature style of Katoki Hajime. While visually appealing, it strays too far from the creator's ideal Strike Gundam image.

This project aims to reinterpret the Strike Gundam closer to the ideal RG version by using the Revival Strike Gundam as the foundation. For ease of construction, the EG version was selected as the base model.

Modifications

The EG kit underwent extensive modifications:

  1. The head and shoulders were replaced with parts from an older EG Strike Gundam (the uncolored version often included with modeling magazines). These parts feature a new design closer to the PG Strike Gundam's style.
  2. Following the examples of Ken16w's RM and EG Strike Gundam builds, panel lines were added to the chest and shoulders. Structural layers were enhanced to create a richer, more complex appearance in the chest and collar.
  3. The forearms were rebuilt to match the RM version's aesthetic, using cutting and pla-plate techniques.
  4. For the skirt armor, pla-plates were used to improve structural depth, and the side skirt armor was redesigned to address the simplicity of the original EG kit.
  5. Leg modifications were minimal, focusing on panel lines without significant restructuring. The overall design of the panel lines references a previous EG Create Strike project by the creator in November 2023.

Equipment

This project includes only the Aile Striker and Sword Striker packs:

  1. The Aile Striker Pack: Taken from the HGCE Strike Gundam kit, it underwent basic seam removal, sharpening, and was adorned with RG-style decals. As the most iconic pack from SEED, it was an essential inclusion.
  2. The Sword Striker Pack: From the EG Strike Gundam accessory kit, it was upgraded with additional panel lines and RG-style decals to align with the base model. The creator holds a personal fondness for this pack, having been captivated by its light purple hue since first seeing it in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Mod game.
  3. The Launcher Striker Pack: Though included in the same accessory kit, its outdated design and poor segmentation—stemming from its origins as part of the older Perfect Strike equipment—dissuaded the creator from building it.

Production Timeline

This project began in December 2023 and was completed in October 2024. Initially intended for a competition with a September deadline, progress was delayed due to a last-minute decision to mold additional parts. The final photoshoot was not completed until November, making the project feel unusually prolonged. Nevertheless, the iterative process reflects the creator's evolving approach to model building over the past year.
