Bandai Gunpla Plastic Model ENTRY GRADE 1/144 MBF-02 Strike Rouge Review
The ENTRY GRADE (EG) Strike series has been released in various formats, including standard kits, lottery prizes, and round boxes. This time, the standard version of the Strike Rouge (not the Light Package Ver.) has been released for general sale at a price of 880 yen.
Included Accessories
The kit includes only a beam rifle and a shield. There are no extra parts included.
Additionally, this version comes with marking stickers, allowing for details such as Cagalli's personal emblem to be added.
Design & Features
The Strike Rouge is built using recovered data from the Strike Gundam and spare parts from its repairs. It features a Power Extender, which alters its Phase Shift Armor color to red hues.
This kit is essentially a color variation of the previously released EG Strike Gundam. Unlike the Light Package Ver., this standard version includes a beam rifle and shield but excludes the Armor Schneider knives.
Build & Construction
Easy Assembly: The kit retains the touch-gate system, allowing it to be assembled without nippers. Efficient Runner Layout: The parts are well-organized, making assembly smooth.
Joint Design: Uses KPS plastic instead of polycaps, resulting in simpler joint structures. Natural Elbow Joints: Despite the simplicity, the elbows have a more natural shape than the HGCE version.
Color Accuracy & Details
The color separation is impressive, with details like the Igelstellung (head-mounted cannons) pre-colored. While some thrusters and ducts require painting, the overall color accuracy is remarkable for such an affordable kit.
Head Unit
The twin eyes are designed with a shadow effect, eliminating the need for stickers. The ear ducts are color-separated (unlike HGCE, where they require painting). The helmet seams are less noticeable due to improved part division.
Torso & Arms
Frame colors are well-separated. The Striker Pack joint is compatible with existing packs. Shoulder armor has proper color separation, and the elbows have a more angular shape, making them more natural-looking than HGCE’s shared-joint design.
Legs & Feet
The thighs feature a rotation axis, enhancing articulation. Some seam lines appear on the calves, but they are minimal.
Elbows and knees use C-shaped joints, making assembly simple. The soles of the feet have visible hollow sections.
Articulation & Poseability
The range of motion is on par with HGCE kits. The shoulder joints and elbows move better in HGCE, but it’s not a major issue.
Leg articulation is nearly identical, with EG having slightly better outward spread. Both kits have articulation that competes with modern releases.
Comparison with HGCE Strike Rouge
Overall proportions are similar to the HGCE version. The frame color of the EG version is dark gray, adding better contrast to the red armor.
Weapons & Accessories
Beam Rifle (57mm High-Energy Beam Rifle)
EG-exclusive design with a simplified grip guard and a fixed foregrip. Molded in two halves, creating visible seam lines. Dark gray color, matching the frame. The barrel is not hollow, so HGCE’s rifle can be used for a more detailed look.
Shield
Identical to the standard Strike’s shield, with only color differences. The grip is molded in place, so it does not move. Attaches via a single joint, limiting positioning options.
Customization & Compatibility
Limited playability on its own, but can be combined with various Striker Packs for customization. Compatible with HGCE’s Aile Striker, which blends well with the EG’s colors. Option Set Striker Packs can be used, but some may require painting for a color match.
Additional Equipment
The Gunbarrel Striker (sold separately) can be attached. Sword & Launcher Striker packs also enhance customization. The old HG I.W.S.P. pack is attachable, but shield connection is slightly loose.
Durability & Longevity
Smooth assembly and wide articulation, but some joints loosen over time. C-shaped joints in the elbows and knees may become loose with extended use. Regular tightening and adjustments might be necessary for long-term durability.
Summary
The EG Strike Rouge was previously available in lottery prizes and round box sets, but this general release makes it much easier to obtain.
As a color variation of the EG Strike, it retains the same simple yet effective design, color accuracy, and articulation. With the expansion of the Striker Pack lineup, this kit offers plenty of customization options for fans who enjoy modding their Gunpla.
For 880 yen, it’s an excellent budget-friendly option with great build quality and flexibility.
