Bandai Gunpla Gundam Artifact Phase 5
The Gundam Artifact series is known for its compact, single-color model kits with intricate detailing and unique mechanical arrangements. With Phase 5 now released, this set continues the tradition of highly dense mechanical designs and excellent part separation, making each kit a standout piece.
Each kit is priced at 550 yen, and unlike previous sets where some models were rarer than others, this time all five models are evenly distributed in the box assortment.
Lineup Overview
Phase 5 features five new mobile suits:
- No. 23 – Zaku Cannon
- No. 24 – Hyaku Shiki
- No. 25 – The O
- No. 26 – ZZ Gundam
- No. 27 – Silver Bullet Suppressor
Zaku Cannon (No. 23)
The Zaku Cannon stays true to its original weapon loadout, featuring the 180mm cannon, big gun, and machine gun. However, the armor design has been heavily modified, emphasizing exposed frames and mechanical cylinders, which give it an enhanced mechanical aesthetic.
- The armor is reshaped, making it look bulkier and more industrial.
- The backpack includes a spare magazine and is connected to the big gun through an intricate frame.
- The legs feature exposed frames, with large mechanical cylinders adding a rugged appearance.
- Movement is minimal, with only the head and arms being rotatable.
Hyaku Shiki (No. 24)
Compared to the Zaku Cannon, the Hyaku Shiki retains a design closer to its original form, but still includes several modifications.
- The overall proportions are sleek yet powerful, with expanded waist armor.
- New mechanical details have been added to the binders, abdomen, and knees.
- Comes equipped with a beam rifle in the right hand and a Clay Bazooka mounted on the back.
- The binders feature large cylindrical details, enhancing its mechanical feel.
- Like other Artifact kits, articulation is minimal, with only the head being movable.
The O (No. 25)
A large and powerful mobile suit from Zeta Gundam, The O is the most intricate kit in Phase 5, featuring an impressive seven runners.
- Retains its original bulk and proportions but has heavily modified front and rear skirts, resembling hidden arms ready to deploy.
- Hidden arm parts are included as swappable components, allowing for a beam saber deployment mode.
- Exposed frame sections and large cylinders enhance its mechanical depth.
- Beam rifle has been slightly redesigned, incorporating additional details.
ZZ Gundam (No. 26)
A massive and powerful kit, the ZZ Gundam features an intense, heavy-duty mechanical arrangement.
- The Double Beam Rifle is thicker, adding to its imposing appearance.
- Backpack and thrusters have been enlarged, emphasizing power.
- Shield is connected via new cylindrical mechanical structures.
- The legs are highly detailed, with exposed frames and additional cylinders.
- Articulation is limited to the head; the rest is a fixed model.
Silver Bullet Suppressor (No. 27)
One of the most unique mobile suits in the lineup, the Silver Bullet Suppressor features an array of spare arms on its back, designed to support its Beam Magnum weaponry.
- Spare arms are sculpted individually, adding to its mechanical complexity.
- The kneeling position is supported by landing gear-style knee armor.
- Right and left arms are asymmetrical, reflecting its unique weapon system.
- Beam Magnum now includes a scope, reinforcing its sniper role.
- Despite its detail, articulation remains minimal, making it best suited for display.
Special Features & Secret Color Variant
Each Gundam Artifact set includes a secret color variant, and for Phase 5, it is a clear blue version.
- The transparent plastic gives a sleek, futuristic look.
- Since the parts are small and numerous, assembly in clear plastic can be challenging.
- The fluorescent properties react under black light, adding an extra visual effect.
Summary
The Gundam Artifact Phase 5 series continues to impress with its incredible level of detail, intricate mechanical designs, and dense part separation. Despite the small scale, these models pack a level of craftsmanship that rivals even larger kits.
- Highest part count yet, with The O having seven runners.
- Extremely fine mechanical details, pushing the boundaries of miniature model kits.
- The addition of Zeta and ZZ Gundam units enhances display possibilities, allowing fans to recreate epic battles.
- Articulation is limited, but these models excel as high-detail display pieces.
With future releases, will we see more Zeta Gundam additions or an expansion into alternate universes? No matter what’s next, Gundam Artifact Phase 5 has set a new high bar for mini-scale mechanical kits!
