Bandai Gunpla HG 1/144 ZGMF-MM07 Z'Gok [SEED FREEDOM Ver.] Review
From the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the HGCE Z’GOK has been released as a model kit. This unit made a strong impression in the film with its unique gimmick—housing the Infinite Justice Gundam Type II within its frame. The kit is priced at 3,520 yen.
Included Accessories
The kit comes with:
- Heated Anti-Armor Claws (both left and right)
- Four beam effect parts for the M2X32E Forlantes
- Damaged head part to recreate the scene where it was destroyed by the Squad Shiva's attack in the final battle
Notably, there are no leftover parts included in this kit.
Minimal Use of Stickers
The sticker sheet is kept to a minimum, with the only sticker provided being for the twin eyes of the internal Infinite Justice Gundam Type II.
Design and Features
The HGCE Z’GOK is the mobile suit piloted by Athrun Zala in SEED FREEDOM. Its design follows the classic amphibious MS Z’GOK, but with several major differences:
- A horned head with an internal Infinite Justice Gundam Type II
- A back-mounted M2X32E Forlantes, shared with Infinite Justice Gundam Type II
Articulation & Structure
This HGCE kit features modern engineering, eliminating polycap joints and using KPS plastic for improved durability. Despite its bulky amphibious design, the articulation range is remarkably wide.
The head, torso, and lower legs feature partial internal Infinite Justice Gundam Type II details, making for a unique layered design.
The internal unit is not fully recreated, but key exposed parts are carefully sculpted and visible.
Color & Part Separation
The color scheme closely resembles Char’s Z’GOK, with a high level of part separation for a modern kit. The chest vents, missile launchers, and head details are all individually molded, reducing the need for stickers. The molded color accuracy is excellent, making it possible to build an impressive model straight out of the box.
Backpack & Equipment
The Forlantes unit is fully removable. The Z’GOK can be displayed without it, maintaining a clean silhouette.
Head & Monocular Eye Movement
The head features a mono-eye, with a SAM-434 anti-air missile "Jarhead" stored inside the forehead. The mono-eye lacks a clear protective cover but has detailed rail movement.
The mono-eye can slide within its rail, allowing for manual repositioning. Removing the mono-eye section reveals the head of the internal Infinite Justice Gundam Type II.
Torso & Backpack Details
Ducts and armor plates are separately molded for increased detail. The waist armor design has individual segmented plates rather than the traditional skirt-like structure. The backpack is compact, with a limited swinging mechanism.
The connector is specifically designed for Forlantes, meaning it is not compatible with standard two-hole backpack joints.
Integration with Infinite Justice Gundam Type II
The kit’s torso and head can be swapped with parts from the separately released HGCE Infinite Justice Gundam Type II, allowing for enhanced color accuracy and detail.
However, the kit’s default torso lacks some panel separation and back detailing compared to the standalone Infinite Justice Gundam Type II kit.
Arm & Claw Mechanism
The arms retain the classic Z’GOK segmented design, but with more refined articulation. The forearm features a built-in shield.
The accordion-like arm sections are built using internal frame rings, allowing smooth movement. The YD-5M Anti-Armor Claws can open and close, adding playability.
Leg Design & Articulation
The legs follow a traditional Z’GOK design, but include detailed panel lines that suggest a removable armor mechanism.
The thigh’s accordion structure mirrors the arm’s internal ring-based design. The ankle joint is extendable, increasing its range of motion.
The lower legs and soles feature partial Infinite Justice Gundam Type II armor, adding depth to the transformation gimmick.
Forlantes Flight Unit
The M2X32E Forlantes is the same mold as the one used in Infinite Justice Gundam Type II, maintaining full articulation and transformation capabilities. It can be converted into flight mode, adding versatility to the kit.
Articulation & Poseability
Despite being based on an amphibious MS design, this kit features modern articulation that allows for dynamic action poses. The arms, torso, and waist have excellent mobility, allowing for intense melee stances.
The shoulder and waist can swing sideways, improving posing options. The knees bend up to 100 degrees, and the ankles have decent flexibility.
Comparison with Other Kits
The HGCE Infinite Justice Gundam Type II is similar in size, but attempting to fully fit it inside the Z’GOK armor would be unrealistic due to plastic thickness and joint limitations. The horn is a separate add-on piece, not a built-in part.
Beam Effects & Accessories
The beam effect parts are fluorescent pink, with a less transparent look compared to Infinite Justice Gundam Type II’s effects. The claws can swap out for heated versions, molded in a pearl-finished red color, enhancing the battle-damaged aesthetic.
The thruster beneath the torso can be used as a stand connector. The Forlantes unit also includes a 3mm stand hole for flight display options.
Special Damage Parts
A damaged head cover is included, allowing for battle-damaged scene recreations from the movie’s climax. The damage piece easily attaches and detaches, making swapping between battle-damaged and normal states effortless.
Comparison with Previous Z’GOK Kits
Compared to HGUC Z’GOK and HGBF Amazing Z’GOK, the HGCE version features finer details and a more robust build. The proportions remain faithful to the original, making it a great addition for Z’GOK fans.
Summary
The HGCE Z’GOK (SEED FREEDOM Ver.) is a fantastic kit that blends classic amphibious MS aesthetics with modern engineering. The strong articulation and detailed sculpting make it a standout model.
The internal Infinite Justice Gundam Type II gimmick adds a unique feature, while the damaged head part enhances scene recreation possibilities. The Forlantes unit provides extra versatility, and the overall color separation is excellent.
While it lacks handheld weapons, the dynamic posing potential and intricate transformation details make this a high-value kit—especially for SEED FREEDOM fans. It’s also perfectly compatible with the HGCE Cavalier Aile Strike Gundam, allowing for further display options.
A must-have for Gunpla collectors and Gundam SEED enthusiasts!
