The HG 1/144 GQuuuuuuX: Zaku Mass-Produced Color, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @akasaha1124, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

Gundam GQuuuuuuX – Zeon-style Mix Custom of the Main Suit "GQuuuuuuX" from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. This kit was built by blending Zeon aesthetics into the protagonist unit, GQuuuuuuX.

The movie was watched about a month after release, but even before seeing it or hearing details, the rounded form of GQuuuuuuX made it feel like a natural fit for a Zeon-style mix.

Oversized shield and shoulder spikes from other HG Zaku kits were intentionally selected to add a sense of imbalance that surprisingly complements GQuuuuuuX’s design. Unlike classic Zakus, this build features a slimmer upper body with thicker hips and thighs, creating a distinct new silhouette.

It glows under blacklight, achieving a heated effect that became one of the builder’s favorite features.

Assembly Details

Recent HG kits have highly detailed parts and more segmented components than expected, making even straight builds surprisingly complex.

Mixing & Customization

Initially planned as just a recolor, but with light modifications, the builder decided to go for a full kitbash instead.

The kit includes two face types. Since the "face open" version wasn't to their taste, the builder took antennas from another kit and modified it into a double-antenna style.

One of the spike shoulder joints broke, so both shoulders were converted to magnet-based connections. The right shoulder (with the shield) remains on a peg and might break if moved too much. Magnets were also added to the round parts of GQuuuuuuX to reduce part dropping.

To balance out the heavy-looking upper body, the legs were extended. Thrusters were attached with ball joints, making them detachable by preference. They’re not fixed in place, but the unit can still stand stably. These added leg parts were painted afterward.

Topcoat: Mr. Color Super Smooth Clear (matte)

The build was tough due to the number of small parts, but even just doing a straight build or repaint results in a cool kit.

Combining GQuuuuuuX and Zaku parts resulted in a silhouette that doesn’t quite feel like a traditional Gundam—something fresh and unique. With the GQuuuuuuX anime airing starting April 2025, there’s a lot to look forward to!

GQuuuuuuX has become a familiar face (still not a fan of the face-open version), and curiosity is growing about the red Gundam teased in promos.
