This Master Grade (MG) version of the Mass-Production Model Riko Custom Zaku offers a bold, custom design distinct from the previously released HGUC version. Priced at ¥4,620, this exclusive kit was made available via Premium Bandai, featuring full-color packaging and an instruction manual based on the MS-06J Zaku Ver.2.0, supplemented by an additional insert for decal placement and color notes.

Overview & Unique Features

The color scheme was directly supervised by Yuki Yoda, who portrayed Riko Komukai in the drama "Mass-Production Model Riko – The Last Life Assembly of a Plamo Girl." Inspired by the show’s logo and Yoda’s on-set outfit, the design uses vivid tones of yellow, white, green, and orange to create a distinct, playful appearance.

Color Separation & Detailing

Nearly all color separation is achieved through molded parts, thanks to the detailed runner design. The kit includes two B-runners to provide color accuracy without the need for extensive painting.

Some color sections, particularly around the thighs and insignia, require marking stickers. The included marking stickers are minimal but feature symbolic details such as a “甚” (Jinbei) emblem and custom artwork drawn by Yuki Yoda herself.

Build Quality & Articulation

Head Unit

Uses Ver.2.0’s segmented construction with a clear mono-eye linked to neck articulation. Comes with optional command antenna.

Body & Backpack

Features a small, J-type backpack suited for ground units. The cockpit opens, and the seat shifts side-to-side via a lever inside the backpack base.

Arms & Legs

Strong articulation in shoulders and waist. Legs use spring-connected power cables that follow movement naturally. Foot soles are solid with articulated toes.

Weapon Mounts

Waist connection points support all included weaponry. The shield arm is flexible for various poses.

Visual Impact & Comparison

Compared to the standard MG Char’s Zaku Ver.2.0, the Riko Custom Zaku appears sleeker and far more colorful. The toy-like vibrance is amplified by bright yellow weapons and armor components.

While Char’s Zaku already features a bold red, the Riko Custom version surpasses it in visual intensity, creating a unique, character-driven impression. The triple missile pod and vivid color scheme set it apart from the HG version, making the MG release more visually dynamic and weapon-rich.

Playability & Notes

Solid joint strength ensures stability during posing. Some connection points, especially for weapons like the machine gun and missile pod, are a bit shallow and may come loose with movement.

Power pipe parts may have excess flash or burrs, which can complicate assembly. Cleaning is recommended prior to fitting. Heat Hawk requires painting if detail is desired, as the part is molded in a single yellow tone.

Summary

The MG Riko Custom Zaku stands out for its unconventional yet appealing color scheme and maintains the high articulation and modular design expected from a Ver.2.0 Zaku frame. While there are no newly sculpted parts, the vivid character-based palette and included accessories make it a compelling display or play kit. Minor inconveniences like tight power pipe cleanup or shallow pegs are present but manageable. This model balances charm, color impact, and functional build quality, making it a unique addition to any Gunpla collection.
