The MG 1/100 Gundam Astraea with Proto GN High Mega Launcher: Custom, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @tsukifumi42s_zg, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

Inspired by the Metal Build version, the modeler took on the challenge of modifying the MG Astraea’s proportions and recreating weapons that haven’t been officially released as kits.

The Proto GN High Mega Launcher includes a fully functional barrel deployment mechanism, accurately replicating its design.

The toe section was created through 3D modeling based on the Metal Build version. For the connection to the kit, the builder used a thinned piece of DAISO Petit Block to ensure compatibility.

Due to interference caused by transplanting the thighs, the skirt area was offset 2mm forward from the base. The white section of the waist block was built using plastic sheet (pla-plate).

A custom arm for the shield was built through scratch-building and kit mixing. Some areas were shaved down to fit near the GN Drive. The design was inspired by Aome-san’s Fin Sternis.

To fix a noticeable gap, the ankle armor was extended, improving the visual and structural consistency.

Using Metal Build reference images, the builder began with rough sketches and refined them into a 3D model while adjusting proportions for accuracy.

While all parts were initially 3D modeled, the barrel itself was made from plastic sheets to reduce weight. The joint section was adapted from an HG Gundam Mk-II arm joint, allowing for flexible articulation.

Like the launcher, the shield was first sketched and then modeled. To support its weight, the moving parts were reinforced using joints from HG Iron-Blooded Orphans kits.

The cable connecting the launcher and shield was also created in 3D. It incorporates a flexible wire core (Jiyu Jizai), enabling it to bend naturally during posing.

White armor: Silver base coat topped with Steel White
Light purple areas: A custom mix of Sosai Shojo Teien’s lavender thinned with white
Red parts: As usual, built up from a pink primer, followed by a coat of Maroon
Joints and frame: Painted in Frame Metallic, finished with a semi-gloss coat
