The HG 1/144 Red Gundam, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @tauyo13, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The HG 1/144 Red Gundam, completed in August 2025, showcases a finely detailed and customized build. The most challenging aspect—the intricate painting of the bits—was overcome through engraving, part separation, and the addition of metal components. The number of bits was increased to six, inspired by Char’s U.C. 0079 style. Minor structural adjustments were made to allow the main body to stand in a more balanced and natural pose.

To recreate the iconic melee battle from Episode 1, several photos were taken alongside the Zeequx. The ability to view the scene from every angle brought a sense of excitement and fulfillment to the builder.

For the bit units, the black outer sections were carefully shaved down and painted gunmetal on the inner frame to create a layered, mechanical look faithful to the design setting. Additional separations were made only where structural integrity could be maintained. The yellow circular details were replaced with brass pipes, and the spherical tank supports were rebuilt using 0.5 mm brass wire. Each bit was replicated using silicone molds to achieve a uniform set of six.

The main body received subtle modifications: the neck area was widened to allow the longer chin to tuck in, and the legs were reshaped for a birdlike stance that shifts the weight naturally into the hips, achieving a sharp, confident S-curve pose. The final silhouette evokes the expressive style of Yasuhiko Yoshikazu’s classic Gundam designs, giving the Red Gundam a distinctly heroic presence.
