The MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Mode Raider, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @garz4351, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The Gundam Barbatos Mode Raider has been completed. As the name suggests, this original build fuses the Full Mechanics Raider Gundam with the MG Barbatos, alongside additional parts from various kits, reimagining Barbatos as a machine specialized for atmospheric flight.

Starting from a full grey primer base, the builder refined and sanded nearly every part—from the toes to the head—resulting in an intensive and exhausting process. The color scheme was carefully chosen to stay faithful to the Raider’s aesthetics, primarily using red and black with accent highlights in Mecha Surfacer tones for added depth.

Photographed against both white and black backgrounds, the model’s details and silhouettes were captured under carefully controlled lighting. The builder expressed a preference for the reverse-grip style of the shield cannon, which gives the unit a more aggressive, dynamic look. Though the plan to extend the barrel couldn’t be realized due to time constraints, the result remains striking.

The custom unit can also transform loosely into an MA-like form—a happy accident discovered during the build process. However, one unexpected issue arose: the modified shoulder armor can no longer retract as originally designed.

The final tabletop shots showcase both configurations—with and without additional flight units. Despite several parts detaching mid-shoot (many only held together by super glue), the build was completed with great satisfaction. The builder credits Aron Alpha Impact-Resistant glue as a true lifesaver during assembly.

This Barbatos Mode Raider is planned for exhibition at this year’s Nexpo, where visitors will be able to appreciate its craftsmanship and bold concept up close.
