Gunpla Custom Build : HG 1/144 Gundvölva Stein by @kyaro_Ilovergm

The HG 1/144 Gundvölva Stein, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @kyaro_Ilovergm, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The builder has completed the Gunvolva Stein, a prototype interpretation envisioned as an evolutionary step between the Lfrith and the production Gunvolva units. By selectively incorporating parts from the Lfrith, the project aims to depict a transitional machine that bridges the mechanical lineage of the two designs.

To reinforce the prototype theme, the twin blades were removed and replaced with a rear antenna. Additional panel lines and minus molds were added throughout the frame to enhance mechanical density. Since the original kit relies heavily on flat surfaces, the builder focused carefully on surface preparation and edge refinement, giving the model a sharper and more deliberate finish while keeping the proportions in their out-of-box configuration.

A selection of detail-up components from Aspara Model were integrated into specific areas to enrich the visual texture without overwhelming the core silhouette.

Connection holes for the shield and other equipment were reworked with Spotter M2 3.0 components, while the beam carbine’s mount was rebuilt using two 0.8×4 connectors placed side by side. Because the mounting points were originally quite deep, plastic material was added behind them to ensure each connector sat at the correct depth. The hand parts were replaced with ASP Hand 6.7 units to refine proportions and grip quality.

Before-and-after comparisons highlight the most significant structural changes. The side skirts were removed, and the Lfrith’s lower-torso side armor and hip roll-axis parts were transplanted. Gaps between these components—as well as the hollow appearance on the sides—were eliminated through putty work. The builder reconstructed the outer edges and created internal backing structures, improving both the aesthetics and the overall solidity of the frame.

The build has received considerable positive feedback, and it will be displayed for the first time at Tomokore 2025 on Sunday, November 2. Visitors attending the event are encouraged to stop by and view the model in person.

This custom project stands as a thoughtful exploration of mechanical lineage, careful detailing, and clean structural refinement—an interpretation of the Gunvolva concept that balances prototype personality with disciplined craftsmanship.
