The HG 1/144 Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @Winagomasu, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The HG Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina was originally purchased for kitbashing with other Cosmic Era units. However, after renewed appreciation sparked by its performance in SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays, the decision was made to build Amatsu Mina as a standalone project without mixing parts.

Modifications

The adjustments are subtle but impactful, focusing on proportions and cleaner presentation:

Neck extended by approximately 3 mm
Waist extended by approximately 2 mm
Side skirt connections replaced with Wave ball joints for improved articulation
Lancer darts separated into individual parts
Hollow areas filled and seam lines removed

These structural refinements improve posture and elongate the silhouette, enhancing the suit’s sleek, assassin-like presence.

Paintwork

The entire kit is fully painted, with only the eye shadow area using a sticker. The color process is carefully layered:

Black: Black surfacer → Graphite Black
Gold: Black surfacer → GX Red Gold
Red: Pink surfacer → GX Metal Red + GX Metal Blue
Gray: Black surfacer → GX Ice Silver
Beam effects: Fluorescent Red with added EX White for gradient
Emissive parts: Fluorescent Blue-Green
Topcoat: Water-based flat finish

The use of metallic GX paints over surfacer bases creates depth and richness, especially in the gold armor sections, which define Amatsu Mina’s identity.

By extending key joints and refining articulation, this build subtly improves the proportions while preserving the original design’s elegance. Combined with a fully realized paint job, the result is a sharp and cohesive interpretation that highlights why Amatsu Mina remains one of the standout designs of the Cosmic Era.
