The HG 1/144 Gustav Karl Type 00: Urban Camouflage, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @ALM, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

This is an urban camouflage build of the Gustav Karl Type 00 in 1/144 scale. The large armor surfaces of the kit made it an ideal candidate for a camouflage challenge.

A dedicated masking sheet for urban patterns was used, resulting in a cleaner finish than expected. The process began with Mecha Surfacer Super Heavy as a base, followed by layered masking and the application of light gray and white to achieve a three-tone city camouflage scheme.

Special attention was given to the legs, the most visually dominant area. Parts were assembled and carefully masked so that the camouflage pattern would align seamlessly across separate components.

The inner frame was painted in Star Bright Iron. Blue accents were added using Kazeaoi to retain a touch of the original color scheme. The paint demonstrated strong coverage, maintaining consistent tone regardless of the base color.

Because the camouflage was the visual focus, decals were kept minimal. Red details were applied to small accents, verniers, and the bazooka, which was finished in a resin-style red tone. The beam rifle was replaced with a different custom weapon, as the original felt undersized for the suit’s bulky proportions.

As a recent kit release, assembly was straightforward with minimal seam line issues, aside from minor treatment on the bazooka. The adjustable leg-length gimmick is particularly effective, with the extended setting enhancing the overall silhouette.

Although there were some challenges with paint chipping during handling, the final result delivers a clean and convincing urban camouflage finish. The project highlights both the ease of building modern HG kits and the visual impact achievable through bold paintwork.
