Gunpla Custom Build : MG 1/100 Expo Gundam by @aaaa32m

The MG 1/100 Expo Gundam, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @aaaa32m, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

This custom build of the 00 Qan[T] was created around the theme: “A Gundam that descended at the Expo for the purpose of dialogue.” The project focuses on symmetry, elegant expansion, and a refined silhouette.

The base model uses parts from 00 Qan[T] Full Saber combined with a spare MG Qan[T] kit to achieve a symmetrical configuration. Elements from the Freedom Gundam in HG form were also incorporated to construct the backpack.

Six Glass Feather units were installed on the rear, forming a wing-like system that provides visual balance and added volume. While the original plan included stronger Full Saber elements, they were intentionally minimized to maintain a cleaner and simpler appearance.

The six Glass Feathers are fully adjustable and can move into multiple positions. They can spread outward like wings or deploy in formations reminiscent of the configuration seen on Gundam Livelance Heaven.

Mixing MG and HG scale components created a design challenge, but the slender proportions of the Qan[T] paired with the slightly larger HG feather units resulted in a balanced and dynamic silhouette.

Careful paint separation was applied to the backpack, with additional metallic blue-green accents inspired by traditional bamboo coloring. The clear parts of the Glass Feathers originally used light blue plastic, which conflicted with the green GN components of the Qan[T].

Instead of replacing the parts, the builder opted for a chrome-style metallic finish. A first attempt with mirror paint did not achieve the intended result, so the tone was adjusted using a metallic polishing paint to restore brightness and cohesion.

The unit retains the GN Sword V, a long and visually striking weapon. Although the mounting strength is somewhat weak and requires careful posing, it greatly enhances the final presentation when properly displayed.

After roughly three months of work and multiple design revisions, the project reached its final form. The combination of symmetrical design, six-wing backpack configuration, and reflective finishing creates a distinctive interpretation of the Qan[T]. The build emphasizes elegance and symbolic presence while staying true to the mobile suit’s role as a machine meant to facilitate dialogue rather than destruction.
