Bandai Spirits has announced the re-release of the MG Re-GZ (Unicorn Ver.) Gunpla from Mobile Suit Gundam UC. As a 1/100 scale model, it offers detailed engineering and updated design features that will appeal to both longtime Gunpla collectors and new builders.

Based on the original MG Re-GZ, this version introduces newly molded exterior parts to better match the mobile suit’s appearance in Gundam UC. Updated parts include the head, chest, forearms, thighs, and other exterior sections, giving the kit a refreshed look and improved accuracy. These design updates enhance the overall proportions while maintaining the recognizable silhouette of the Re-GZ.

The internal structure has also been refined with new parts for the frame and joints, allowing for greater stability and a wider range of motion. KPS material is used in the joints and structural components to improve durability and articulation. Thanks to these improvements, the model kit can achieve both dynamic posing capability and a stylish, anime-accurate appearance.

The kit also faithfully reproduces the distinctive color scheme seen in the Gundam UC movie, using molded plastic colors rather than relying heavily on stickers. This ensures a clean finish even for builders who prefer a straight build without painting.

The MG Re-GZ (Unicorn Ver.) is based on the appearance of the Re-GZ in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. This version updates the original Master Grade Re-GZ with newly molded exterior parts to better match the design seen in the series. Several areas such as the head, chest, forearms, and thighs feature updated molding, giving the kit a more refined and modern look compared to the older release.

MG Re-GZ (Char’s Counterattack Version)

While it is very similar to the Unicorn version in terms of engineering, it features design adjustments that align with the original movie appearance. The overall structure and transformation system remain the same, still relying on the detachable BWS unit to convert the mobile suit into its Mobile Armor configuration.

The main differences are found in the color scheme and surface details. This version uses colors that match the Re-GZ from the Char’s Counterattack film, giving it a slightly different visual tone compared to the Unicorn version. Some sculpt details and panel lines are also adjusted to better match the original anime design, but overall the kit shares much of the same engineering foundation.

MG Re-GZ Custom

The MG Re-GZ Custom is significantly different from the other two versions because it represents a separate mobile suit design rather than a simple variation. The Re-GZ Custom comes from the Char’s Counterattack MSV (Mobile Suit Variations) line and was created as an upgraded version of the original Re-GZ.

Unlike the standard Re-GZ, the Re-GZ Custom features a design that is closer to the Zeta Gundam, including a more aggressive silhouette and a distinctive V-fin on the head. One of its most important differences is its transformation system. Instead of relying on a detachable BWS unit, the Re-GZ Custom has a built-in transformation mechanism, allowing it to convert directly into its Waverider mode. This integrated system makes the mobile suit more advanced and eliminates the need for external equipment during transformation.

RGZ-91 Re-GZ

The RGZ-91 Re-GZ (Refined Gundam Zeta) appears as one of the Earth Federation’s transformable mobile suits in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. Originally developed as a simplified successor to the transformable MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, the Re-GZ was designed to reduce production costs while retaining high performance. Instead of a fully integrated transformation system, the mobile suit relies on an external Back Weapon System (BWS) unit, which allows it to convert into a high-speed Mobile Armor configuration for atmospheric and space combat. In Gundam Unicorn, the Re-GZ serves primarily with the Earth Federation Forces, reflecting the continued use of earlier Universal Century mobile suit technology during the conflict with Neo Zeon remnants.

Within the events of Gundam Unicorn, the Re-GZ is often deployed as a versatile support and combat unit alongside newer mobile suits. Despite being an older design compared to advanced machines such as the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, the Re-GZ remains capable in battle thanks to its balanced armament and mobility. Equipped with standard Federation weapons such as a beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, the mobile suit can engage enemies in both mid-range and close combat. Its ability to attach the BWS unit also allows pilots to quickly transition into a high-speed assault or interception role, making the Re-GZ a flexible and dependable mobile suit within the Universal Century battlefield.
