HG Byarlant Custom was repainted from a second-hand snap-built kit, with a focus on experimenting with fluorescent paint and aircraft-style finishing techniques.

The build includes minor modifications such as a 1 mm neck extension and adjustments to the waist pipe area using plastic plates to improve posture. Numerous hollow sections required filling, though some areas like the elbows were missed before painting. A Gundam decal in an off-white tone was applied selectively, as additional white markings appeared too stark against the finish.

The painting process followed an aircraft-inspired approach, starting with a shadow coat, followed by main color layers, masking fluid for subtle surface variation, and a final washing step. While visually interesting, the effect proved less noticeable at 1/144 scale. Color mixing was carefully adjusted, combining shades like aircraft gray and lavender for the main tones, and creating a dark purple with a balance between navy and violet hues.

The washing stage used a custom mix of khaki and German gray. However, enamel thinner caused cracking in hidden joint areas, limiting poseability after completion. The builder noted that handling and cleanup were challenging, suggesting that dedicated weathering products might offer better results.

Working with a second-hand kit presented additional difficulties. Disassembly was harder than expected due to untouched pegs, making the process more time-consuming than starting from a new kit. Surface imperfections such as dents, gate marks, and adhesive residue from old stickers required extra cleanup.

Additional structural adjustments were made to support the heavy rear tank, preventing it from sagging backward. Although some masking effects became less visible after completion, the process provided valuable experience, especially for future projects outside of mobile suit builds.
