Bandai Gunpla Mobile Suit Gundam MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 27 Review
The MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 27 set brings yet another impressive lineup of mobile suits, featuring the STTS-909 Rising Freedom Gundam. Similar to the Immortal Justice from the 26th installment, the Rising Freedom Gundam’s fully equipped backpack is offered as a separate add-on. The main body itself is incredibly well-made, boasting a level of detail and volume that far exceeds what you'd expect from a 500 yen product.
Features and Accessories
- Railgun: The railgun can be deployed as is, adding to the suit's versatility.
- Shield: The kit includes a part that allows you to adjust the position of the pin for the shield.
- Expansion Set: The Rising Freedom Gundam comes with an expansion set that includes a tool for safely removing parts.
Aesthetic Enhancements
Attaching the backpack significantly improves the appearance of the Gundam. The sculpting is solid, especially on the nose and wings, making the overall presentation far more impressive than the base model alone. The wings can be deployed smoothly, and while a full HiMAT (High Mobility Aerial Tactics) full burst pose isn't achievable, the beam cannon can still be extended.
Transformation and Display
Transformation: The unit can be transformed into MA mode, with mechanics similar to the Immortal Justice. Detailed instructions are available in the official manual.
Display Issues: One minor drawback is that the stand is a bit tricky to use due to the minimal excess holes, which can make display options slightly cumbersome.
Comparison with Immortal Justice
The review also mentions the MDX-0003 Gundam Schwarzette from the latest Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury series. Although it requires a separate weapon set for full assembly, the Gundam Schwarzette is meticulously detailed with unique color schemes faithfully recreated.
Z’Gok
The Mass Production Type Z'Gok is another standout from this lineup. Although usually, the Char’s Z’Gok is released first, this time the mass-produced version takes the spotlight. It has a balanced, cute look with movable mono-eye mechanics, as expected. It also comes with interchangeable Iron Nail parts, allowing for open-claw poses.
Weapon Set
Rising Freedom's Shield Beam Effect: Can be attached to the shield included with the main body.
Schwarzette's Guardian: This accessory offers more complex options with a detachable and re-attachable bit gimmick. It can transform into Guardian Sheath or Guardian Marionette, providing multiple display options.
Summary
Quality: As with previous installments, the level of quality for just 500 yen is astonishing. The Rising Freedom, especially when paired with its expansion set, can recreate the full burst transformation. Having both the Rising Freedom and Immortal Justice side by side is a highlight for any collection.
Overall, MOBILE SUIT ENSEMBLE 27 continues the trend of high-quality, affordable figures, offering a well-balanced selection that should satisfy fans of both classic and new Gundam series.
