The RG Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn (Final Battle Ver.) returns in a dazzling Special Coating version. This exclusive release was available through lottery and pre-order via Premium Bandai, retailing at 12,650 yen.

Included Accessories

The kit comes with a Beam Magnum & Revolving Launcher, Armed Armor DE, Beam Jutte parts, two beam saber blades, interchangeable hands (gripping and open), mounting parts for the backpack’s Armed Armor DE, stand joint, a Riddhe Marcenas pilot figure, and both movable and fixed antenna parts.

Decals & Finish

This version includes realistic metallic decals and water-slide decals. Most markings are applied via water-slide decals, which have a reflective mirror finish for enhanced appearance. Due to the Unicorn Gundam base, some spare parts are included as well.

Special Coating Details

With the Special Coating, the navy and gold sections have been color-plated. This gives the model an elegant, lustrous finish that greatly enhances its overall visual appeal.

Unicorn Mode Overview

In Unicorn Mode, the Banshee Norn piloted by Riddhe Marcenas is equipped with the Armed Armor DE and Armed Armor XC. The Psycho-Frame is rendered in green for the Final Battle version. Most of the armor parts feature glossy metallic plating, and the backpack parts have been remolded in metallic colors.

Shiny and Detailed Finish

The metallic gloss is beautifully executed, emphasizing the intricate panel lines and mechanical detail. With RG’s use of undergates, nub marks are minimal. True to the RG line, transformation to Destroy Mode is achieved without part swapping (except for the head).

Head & Torso

The head features the signature Banshee antenna, with an option between fixed or movable types. Despite its transformation gimmick, the torso remains solid, and the green Psycho-Frame glimpsed through the gaps enhances its mechanical look.

Backpack & Arms

The Armed Armor XC folds compactly, though it lacks a secure locking mechanism and can slightly open. The arms include open-palm hands and lock firmly during transformation. The Beam Magnum can be mounted on the forearm joint, and a Riddhe figure is also included.

Legs & Feet

The legs are highly articulated despite the transformation mechanics. Gold-plated thrusters enhance the visuals. The soles of the feet are fully molded with no hollow areas, ensuring a solid appearance from all angles.

Comparison with the Standard Version

Side by side, the Special Coating version appears more vibrant yet refined, thanks to the navy plating. The complex light reflections amplify the 3D feel and presence of the model.

Weapons & Beam Jutte

No new weapons are included, but the Beam Magnum still supports the Revolving Launcher. The launcher and magazine are removable and can be mounted on the waist. The beam jutte remains a sharp, clear part like the standard version.

Stand & Posing

The included stand uses a joint that connects to the hip. The structure is stable and doesn’t come loose easily. Despite the transformation complexity, the model remains highly poseable. However, MS joints, especially in the shoulders, may feel tight initially.

Destroy Mode Transformation

The transformation steps are unchanged. The ankles and thighs have lockable extensions. The abdomen also extends securely without requiring part swapping. The shoulder and arm units expand for a bulkier silhouette, and the chest opens to reveal the Psycho-Frame.

Head Conversion

To switch to Destroy Mode, the face parts are rotated after removal. The overall result is a balanced and powerful stance, with the expanded Armed Armor XC looking particularly stunning in gold plating.

Transformation Notes

Some joints are stiffer due to the coating, and slight sanding may be required. For instance, the Armed Armor DE's rotation axis was extremely tight in this unit and needed adjustment.

Details in Destroy Mode

The Psycho-Frame remains in clear green. Due to the navy armor, the frame is less visible compared to Unicorn, but still adds depth. The Armed Armor XC uses clear parts to reproduce its complex structure.

Articulation

The elbows, hips, and knees are very mobile, even with the transformation gimmicks. While upward shoulder articulation is limited, the forward and backward movement is generous. The legs also feature wide articulation and deep knee bends.

Gloss & Finish Quality

The plating across the model is smooth and even, with no major defects like dust or discoloration. The Psycho-Frame reacts to blacklight due to its fluorescent green color, adding an extra visual element.

Summary

The RG Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn (Final Battle Ver.) [Special Coating] is a spectacular upgrade of the original. While the price is steep, the reflective plating, enhanced detail visibility, and transformation features make it a standout kit. The navy chrome plating isn’t overly flashy, giving it a sophisticated look that suits the Banshee perfectly.
