This is review of Bandai Gunpla SDW HEROES Captain Quanta GF from Gundam SDWorld Heroes series.
Bandai Gunpla SDW HEROES Captain Quanta GF Review
A new kit, Captain Quanta GF, has arrived from the SDW HEROES line. The retail price is 1,540 yen. The only included accessory is the GF Beam Rifle, and there are no surplus parts. There are quite a large number of stickers, as many parts lack molded colors and rely on stickers for color accuracy.
Captain Quanta GF marks a long-awaited return to the SDW series. According to the manual, the setting describes him as "a hero raised by Command Gundam to be a leader for the next generation of peacekeeping."
The design is based on 00 Quanta, featuring GN Shield- and GN Sword Bit-style weapons. It also inherits some elements from Command Gundam and Sergeant Verde Buster.
Kit Structure and Compatibility
The kit uses the familiar frame from the Sangoku Soketsuden series. While the elbows are fixed, knee articulation is present. As expected of the SDW line, there are many clear parts and intricate detailing.
Additionally, it can combine with the support mecha GF Gundam Astraea Type-F and GF Gundam Astraea Type-B, released at the same time, to form a massive machine called General Fortress.
Design and Color Separation
Without the railgun or shield attached, the base color is mostly represented by the molded plastic. However, fine color separations are heavily reliant on stickers. Like other SDW kits, the backside lacks stickers, so achieving full accuracy requires detailed painting.
Painting Reference
The instruction manual provides a sample paint scheme. For example, the legs require fine detailing, as stickers are not provided for those areas.
Head Unit
A close-up of the head reveals a sensor resembling an eyepatch on the right eye, similar to Command Gundam. Though based on Quanta, it features additional antennae on the back of the head and a large emblem on the forehead.
As usual, only one eye-direction sticker is included—no left or right gaze options. The sensor on the right eye is removable.
Torso and Waist
The torso retains Quanta’s signature circular lens unit in the chest, made from clear plastic. The waist armor is large and features visible clear parts as well. As with other SDW kits, the surface is covered in fine mechanical detailing.
Removing the backpack reveals multiple 3mm joints on the inner frame, typical of Sangoku Soketsuden.
Arms
The arms are colored in black and dark blue, keeping the Quanta motif with asymmetrical designs. The right forearm features gauntlet-like armor.
Legs
The side armor is attached to the thighs, and the knees are articulated. Though the inner part has hollow sections, they're mostly hidden from the front, maintaining a solid appearance. The soles are mostly hollow but include 3mm joints.
Articulation
Articulation is standard for SDW kits using the Sangoku Soketsuden frame. Neck and waist movement is decent, and the shoulders use ball joints. Elbows are non-articulated.
Leg Movement and Stability
Leg spread is limited due to interference from side armor and the waist, but ground contact is good. Knees are movable, though the large waist armor tends to get in the way—this is common among SDW kits.
Weaponry
The only handheld weapon is the GF Beam Rifle, keeping the build simple. While Command Gundam had a missile launcher, Captain Quanta features a railgun mounted on the right shoulder.
The GF Beam Rifle is molded in solid black with no special gimmicks. It's made from two parts, offering decent thickness, and the seam line is recessed, making it visually clean.
The Extermination Flash, a special attack taught by Sergeant and named by Zhao Yun, is featured in the lore.
The railgun can slightly swivel up and down. Its design resembles two miniaturized versions of the Verde Buster's railgun. Although it has no major gimmicks, the design looks great with minimal visible seam lines and solid 3D detailing.
These are reminiscent of GN equipment, though no official name is given in the manual. There are four sword bits, all of which can detach. The shield is split into upper and lower parts and is connected via ball joints.
Unlike Quanta's original GN Arms backpack design, these are mounted on shoulder armor instead, offering a wide range of posing options. The split structure allows the shield to open in a V-shape.
The upper section can also rotate independently, adding posing flexibility.
Though the exact combat use is unclear, the sword bits use 3mm joints, allowing them to be displayed as if floating.
Compatibility with Vehicles
As the inner frame is the same across SDW kits, the figure can be mounted on bikes and other mecha.
Size Comparison
Compared with Legend BB Command Gundam, the differences in detail and proportions are apparent.
When displayed next to Zhao Yun 00 and Sergeant Verde Buster Gundam, Captain Quanta GF is of average size within the SDW line.
Summary
Captain Quanta GF is a new model kit from the SDW HEROES line, priced at 1,540 yen. Inspired by 00 Quanta with additional elements from Command Gundam and Sergeant Verde Buster, the kit features detailed designs and extensive use of clear parts. It includes only the GF Beam Rifle as an accessory and relies heavily on stickers for color accuracy due to limited molded color separation. Built on the familiar Sangoku Soketsuden frame, it offers knee articulation but fixed elbows, with decent movement in the neck and waist. The head design stands out with a right-eye sensor and a large forehead emblem, while the shoulder-mounted railgun and sleek black beam rifle add to its unique look. Despite its simple armament and articulation, the kit impresses with intricate detailing and customization potential.
