Gunpla Custom Build : EG 1/144 v Gundam: Enhanced Type WFF Equipment by @HG-0G3
The EG 1/144 v Gundam: Enhanced Type WFF Equipment, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @HG-0G3, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.
Today’s featured work is the EG Enhanced Nu Gundam equipped with Wing Fin Funnels, a custom project completed by the builder HG-0G3.
This model was developed gradually over the course of a year. The original concept aimed to create fin funnels that could function effectively in atmospheric combat, inspired by the V.S.B.R. units from Gundam F91. However, as the build progressed, the fin funnels evolved visually into wing-like structures. This shift led to the final designation: Wing Fin Funnel (WFF).
The design intentionally incorporates stylistic elements from Freedom Gundam and Strike Freedom Gundam. In fact, parts from the RG Freedom Gundam wings were directly integrated into the build, making the influence explicit rather than subtle.
A beam saber rack from the RG Nu Gundam was transplanted onto the backpack. This decision came late in the build process, resulting in some difficulty determining optimal placement after the wing units were already completed.
The beam rifle was also modified. The nozzle from the RG Nu Gundam rifle was removed and combined with a large rifle from an option parts set to create a long beam rifle configuration. Excess wing parts from the Freedom Gundam, left over after cutting, were repurposed and mounted along the rifle’s sides. This approach allowed nearly all parts to be used efficiently, reinforcing the build’s cohesive design philosophy.
All additional components are attached using neodymium magnets and brass rods, allowing for secure attachment while remaining fully detachable. Despite the complexity of the construction process, the final presentation maintains a clean and organized appearance.
The wing unit can be purged entirely. In the builder’s concept, if the wings were damaged during combat, the unit would be discarded to transition into mid- to close-range combat. This modular approach enhances both the visual narrative and practical posing options.
Several early concepts were tested and ultimately discarded. One prototype attempted to mount the fin funnels in a more streamlined, V.S.B.R.-like arrangement but failed to achieve the desired balance. Another was rejected for overloading the back silhouette. These discarded ideas played an important role in refining the final wing configuration.
With the wing unit attached, the model naturally lends itself to dramatic aerial poses reminiscent of iconic “descending from the sky” imagery. The build also supports a turret-style firing mode, though the lower two funnels interfere with arm movement and are therefore not used in this configuration. In the builder’s setting, a full six-funnel burst would be possible in space after purging the wing unit, though this was not fully photographed.
After a long and demanding build, this project marks a clear milestone. With the Wing Fin Funnel concept complete, the builder is now free to move on and fully enjoy new kits without constraints.
