The HG 1/144 GM Sniper Custom, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @porthos, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The GM Sniper Custom was recreated through a mixing build using an old MSV kit and a modern HG kit. This mobile suit is a personal favorite of the builder, which inspired a highly detailed custom project.

The build presents the GM Sniper Custom as a heavily tuned unit capable of standing alongside the RX-78-2 Gundam. The concept focuses on a heavily armed, high-mobility escort unit designed to protect the main fleet.

The backpack is equipped with a large thrust power rocket pack, while additional auxiliary boosters are installed on the legs to improve mobility.

The head features an added visor over the main camera.
A box-type beam saber unit is mounted on the left arm, providing a close-combat option.
For mid-range combat, the suit carries a customized beam rifle designed for high-mobility battle conditions.
The waist area includes an auxiliary cooling unit and additional armor parts.
Both calves are fitted with attachments that carry beam spray guns.
The build also supports multiple weapon loadouts including a bazooka and a railgun.

The model was painted using the Gundam Marker Airbrush System with the following colors:

The color scheme remains mostly faithful to the original design while adding slight custom variations.

Old water-slide decals from the vintage kit were originally planned for use. However, most had deteriorated and tore during application. Only the knee marking “No.92” was salvaged by carefully reconnecting broken pieces.

The beam rifle received additional detailing around the scope and an extended barrel. Magnets were installed so the rifle can be separated and stored at the waist. The stock was also modified with a movable joint.

The visor on the head was made movable so it can flip upward. The antenna was removed to prevent interference with articulation.

The legs retain the heavy proportions of the MSV kit to emphasize a rugged ace-unit appearance. Since the old kit had been partially cut by its previous owner, the builder continued the modification work and completed the concept.

HG GM parts were used for the thighs and feet, requiring joint transplantation and custom connectors. This was the builder’s first attempt at such modification.

Additional panel lines and molded detail parts were added across the model. Plastic plates and metallic circular details were also installed for further mechanical depth, with the chest duct area being a highlight.

The model was finished with panel lining and a matte top coat, completing a solid reinterpretation of the GM Sniper Custom with a heavier and more mechanical aesthetic.
