The RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam ver. 2.0 [ Thunderbolt Color ], masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @MaguronGP, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

Since its announcement, the RG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 invoked a mysterious sense of compulsion in them, as if they "had to build it." Although they lost the pre-order battle, they successfully acquired it on the release day. Impressed by the kit's design, they finally completed the build.

There have been various color variations of the original Gundam, but they chose to paint it inspired by the Full Armor Gundam from the Thunderbolt version (its base unit), which resonated with them the most. The dark hero vibe and the more subdued color palette fit perfectly with the massive proportions of this build. The white parts remain unpainted, keeping the balance just right.

Utilizing the kit's naturally sharp edges, they emphasized these with a 2B pencil. They typically avoid weathering techniques, but this time, they found simply tracing the edges to be surprisingly easy, resulting in a stunning scale effect. For panel lining, they used the usual flow-type ink, along with the much-talked-about 0.2mm Orenz pen for areas where the ink doesn't flow well, achieving flawless results.

The articulation is so impressive that the shooting pose, with the beam rifle held in both hands, is spot-on. The twin eyes also benefit from the effect of molded metallic stickers, giving them a sharp and intense look.

Inspired by a dual-wielding scene from the spin-off "Cucuruz Doan's Island," which is filled with such dynamic moments, they expressed a great fondness for these dramatic scenes. It’s the kind of move that makes you feel ready to face death!

They were in awe of how the model's shoulder joints pull out, the waist twists, and the torso bends, all without parts popping off, especially given the size. This is undoubtedly one of the masterpiece kits of 2024, and the price of 3,850 yen feels like a steal. Now they feel the urge to display it alongside a Zeong!
