The FM 1/100 Aile Calamity Gundam: Sturm Package, masterfully customized by the Gunpla builder @tromboy141, stands as an exemplary model of unique modification and intricate detailing.

The builder undertook a custom project using the Full Mechanics Aile Calamity Gundam, addressing a visual imbalance that made the lower body appear disproportionately underwhelming compared to the upper body when built straight out of the box. To resolve this, the lower half was enhanced and bulked up using junk parts to give the entire silhouette a more harmonious and powerful look.

From the front view, additional leg armor was sourced from leftover MG Duel Assault Shroud parts. The large vernier units attached to the waist came from an old Air Master Burst kit. The main color scheme was inspired by aircraft and the DeLorean from Back to the Future, utilizing Mr. Color Super Titanium 2 to capture a metallic, industrial feel. Weathering techniques were applied to simulate the realistic wear and tear seen on real fighter jets.

From the side, the original hand-held weapon— a hammer—was replaced with the Glide Gun from MG Barbatos, aligning more closely with the concept of a long-range aerial bombardment unit. The concept envisioned was a heavy bombing Mobile Suit for base suppression, attacking enemy strongholds from above, making the long-range firepower a more fitting choice than melee combat equipment.

From the rear, the original Calamity design already carried a heavy, powerful impression. To match that bulk, the builder increased the overall thruster output by adding volume and detail, enhancing the sense of thrust and propulsion.

For this project, the base Aile Calamity frame was left largely unmodified. The emphasis instead was placed on painting and weathering, drawing inspiration from vintage aircraft aesthetics and the iconic finish of the DeLorean. These influences helped give the unit a grounded, battle-hardened look.

A pre-paint photo showcases the kit in its raw form, highlighting how the added parts were simply attached through kitbashing and mixing. The additional components are easily identifiable. One challenge encountered was that the Barbatos Glide Gun didn’t naturally fit in the Aile Calamity’s hand—so the handle was reversed top-to-bottom to allow for a better grip.
