This Gundam Astray was originally purchased during the TV broadcast period, built straight out of the box, and then left unfinished for years. It was later revisited, fully modified, and completed with no parts taken from other kits.

The project initially began as a “No-Name” concept. Early on, leftover Astray parts were added around the waist and left shoulder to increase surface detail. During storage, the red antenna was broken; instead of restoring it, the shortened antenna was reshaped to look intentional. Significant detail-up work was done, along with major proportion adjustments such as extending the torso and shortening the neck to improve overall balance.

A simple, scratch-built wing unit became the turning point of the build and led to a full reconfiguration of the design. While no strict backstory was defined, the machine was imagined as a unit repeatedly repaired and upgraded after damage, with this form representing one stage in that cycle

Before priming, panel lining work was intentionally left undone. Scribing on KPS material proved difficult, and progress slowed at that stage, making completion feel uncertain. Finishing the model in the end made the effort worthwhile.
