REVIEW MGEX 1/100 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver. KA, Bandai

This is review of Plastic Model Kit Gunpla Bandai Master Grade Extreme MGEX 1/100 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver. KA from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn series.

MGEX 1/100 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver. KA Review

A high-end brand called Master Grade Extreme a.k.a MGEX was released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Gunpla. Unicorn Gundam was made into a kit as the MGEX first step. The price is 25,300 yen, which is quite expensive for an MG, but you can enjoy the light-emitting gimmick.

Weaponry and Accessories Option Set

MGEX Unicorn Gundam ver. KA come with alot of accessories. On the packaging include beam magnum, hyper bazooka, shield x 3, shield connecting parts, beam gatling x 6, shield arm connection joint x 2, gatling connection joint x 3, shield attachment arm parts x 2, Cardeas Vist figure. 2 types, Banagher figure, Audrey figure, Marida figure, stand joint, spare E-pack x 2, cockpit replacement parts, fixed antenna parts, nd 3 types of wrist parts: grip hand, gun handle, and emotion manipulator.

The back part of the Emotion Manipulator interferes slightly, so it is not possible to open the fingers wide at the extreme point, but it is possible to create detailed expressions. The limit of the finger flip angle is about the left hand in the image. After that, the base and MS cage are attached, but I will explain them later.

Stickers include metallic stickers and water transfer decals that supplement the sensors and antennas. If you want to enjoy the light emission, you don't need to put the sensor decal on the head. There are also some surplus parts.

Lighting With LED Sheet Unit

Incorporate a flexible LED sheet into the fuselage. This sheet passes through joints, etc., and there are places where it is easy to pinch and damage by mistake, so care must be taken when installing.

In addition, three LEDs for the shield are also included this time. This is fixed green. These are connected to the power supply box, and the construction itself is similar to RG's LIGHTNING MODEL , although there are joints that can be moved.

Display Base

This is the base that also serves as the battery box. There is a post that connects to the waist and the power cable goes through. There are also three connectors behind the base, each of which connects to a shielding cord.

There is a switch when you open the front lid. In addition, the strut can be extended and the angle can be changed like an action base. You can choose your favorite position from 5 holes for the post.

There is a battery box on the back. You can also store sabers on both ends. This Display base use 3pcs AA batteries. Here is the support for the stand. All of them have the same shape, and the wiring is also passed through, and the angle of the support can be changed.

There is a cord winding part on the back, so you can wind up the extra cord when storing. You can also connect and store it behind the base.

MS Cage is a part that is used by setting it on the base, and it is the one that diverted the MS cage that was made into a kit for MG. The cage can be slid like the image. Position can be adjusted.

In addition, a magnum or bazooka can be set on the base, and the small box on the back of the cage can be opened to store small items and a shield can be set.

MGEX 1/100 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver. KA [ Unicorn Mode ]

This time, there is a built-in light-emitting gimmick, and some of the armaments are reused, but the main body is new. The previous MG was rather thin, but this one has been changed to a massive and powerful shape like RG and PG. Most of the armor was an undergate and the gate marks were as inconspicuous as possible.

Of course, the color coding is also reproduced with the molding color. There are two types of antennas in unicorn mode, and mine didn't fit well, so I used the fixed type. In addition, fine slit holes were added to the modeling of the armor, making it more dense.

A poly cap is used for the MS cage, but the main body is polyless, and KPS and ABS are used for the joints and frame. Also, the movable range has been reviewed, and it is an impression that it is much easier to move than the old ver.

If you like , you can put a green metallic sticker on it, but if you want to enjoy the luminescence, it may be safer not to put it on. Vulcan etc. are made into separate parts and the mold is also crisp.

There are also movable type antennas, but I felt that the tip of mine was slightly open due to individual differences. Also, the tip will naturally be thicker, so if you are not particular about it, it will look better if you use the fixed type.

There are Banagher, Audrey, Cardeas, and Marida figures that come with the runners of the MS cage, but there is also Cardeas Vist, which is new and blows away for reproducing volume 1.

The cockpit can be opened and closed on the chest. In addition, a part of the armor is opened, and an antenna-like part protrudes from the collar. As for the cockpit parts, Banagher is on board and you can choose between unicorn mode and destroy mode cockpit parts.

The backpack is also made into separate parts such as vernier. The center of the nozzle is a clear part. The arms don't have the fine details like RG and PG, and there are some slit holes, but they look pretty neat.

As with the waist and arms, the details are less. The back side of the armor is made of clear parts for light emission. Various spare magazines can be attached to the rear armor. Also, if you take the lid, the connector for the power supply comes out.

The legs also have short slit holes like the other parts, and the gray inside is visible, making it a nice accent in the pure white legs. The ankles and thighs are locked and stretchable, so they don't stretch out on their own.

The ankle is made to move well, and the back side is also without meat.

Movability and Articulation

Due to the wiring, it is not super movable, but even with such a complicated gimmick packed in, it moves quite a bit. The shoulders can swing back and forth, and the elbows can bend well, but because the seat passes through, the arm rotation is up to 180 degrees, and the roll is up to 90 degrees.

The lower body also has a necessary and sufficient range of motion, and the grounding is improved. As for the knee part, if you open the armor like the image, it will bend quite deeply.

Weaponry and Accessories Set

Of course, you can attach each weapon to your backpack or arm. Next is the introduction of attached weapons. The Beam Magnum is new so that the grip fits the handle, but most of them are reused.

The foregrip is movable, and E packs can be disassembled one by one. The muzzle is a separate part, but there is a seam. Comes with a stand joint, so it can also be used as an action base. It's a slide lock so it won't come off easily. The shoulder swing makes it easy to hold with both hands.

The shield can be deployed without replacement. There is a mold in the fins, which may be related to the light guide, and the thickness is moderate.

When installing a shield in relation to the light emitting gimmick, In addition to the joints, it is necessary to insert a transparent pin into the arm, so it is necessary to replace the tonfa part with a hole.

Since the hyper bazooka is also a monaka, there are joints in some parts. The foregrip is movable and the magazine can be removed. Expansion and contraction can be done without replacement.

The grip is also angled, so you can hold it without difficulty. The Emotion Manipulator can be used for a wide range of purposes, such as a flat hand or a handle, but once the finger comes off, it tends to come off more and more, so it's still a bit difficult to handle.

Beam Gatling comes with 6 pieces, and the sensor and sub-grip are movable. The muzzle and other parts are separate parts, but there are some seams. If you want to hold this, replace the grip. Any weapon can be held securely in the gun handle. Emotion manipulators are a little troublesome to replace, so this ease of use is good.

Of course, you can combine it with the shield by using joint parts. In combination with MS cage. The cage is diverted, but the main body can be set without problems. Of course, you can also open the arms. Since the poly cap was used, the movement was smooth. Also, if you use the attached figure, you can reproduce the startup scene of Volume 1.

Unimod Lighting

The light leaks through the gaps and looks pretty cool even in unicorn mode. Of course, the head camera emits green light. Although it was more modest than RG, it has a cool shimmering light. The amount of light is perfect, and the atmosphere is outstanding when lit in a dark room like RG's LIGHTING MODEL.

It's a bit see-through in the dark, but with some lighting it's not that noticeable. For those who are particular about it, it seems difficult to paint it because it is necessary to properly block the light. Of course, it is also possible to make only the head emit light.

When lit green. The light emission pattern is

  1. Only the head lights up in green
  2. The main camera lights up → The whole body lights up in red → The psycho frame lights up in red
  3. The main camera lights up in green → The whole body lights up → The LED for the shield also lights up
  4. 2 There is a pattern of repeating 3 and it turns off automatically in about 5 minutes.

Of course, since the stand is connected to the waist, it will emit light even if you move the limbs or float it.

It's not very helpful because it's all painted and the markings are pasted, but it's side by side with the old MG. Overall, the volume has increased and it has become massive.

Especially the impression that the shoulders and arms have grown a size. It also has a firm grip that makes it feel more powerful. It's hard to tell because the decals are pasted, but short slits have been added in various places to add more detail.

The legs are also thicker and better grounded, so it is stable even when standing.

Transformation Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode

First, transform the ankle into a heel shape. The ankle part is stretched and the psycho frame of the knee is exposed. The extended ankle part has a lock that can be firmly fixed.

Deploy calf thrusters. Transformation is not much different from previous unicorns. Stretch your thighs and expose your psycho frame. It also has a lock. Expand the front armor and stretch the abdomen. There is a lock on the abdomen and it will not be closed arbitrarily.

Until now, the rear armor was often easy to close in the unicorn kits, but this time it has a light lock, making it somewhat difficult to close. Unfolding the backpack. Vernier will increase at once. Arm extension is a clicky catch and it unfolds nicely. Then Expansion the chest part.

Finally, regarding the transformation of the head, the cheek parts are removed once, the unicorn mask is stored in the back, the helmet is closed, and the antenna is deployed.

Destroy mode is now complete.

MGEX 1/100 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver. KA [ Destroy Mode ]

As a big feature, the psycho frame is neither red nor green because it is necessary to switch between red and green with a light emitting gimmick. When not lit, the psycho frame is milky white because it is treated as when NT-D is not activated.

Because it was massive even in unicorn mode, it is also more powerful than the old MG. The deployment was very solid, as if the experience so far was alive, and I felt that it was much easier to transform than the old MG.

The degree of opening of the shoulders is modest compared to RG. Also, since the color scheme of the antenna has not been reproduced, this part must be supplemented with stickers or paint.

The twin eye is color-coded, but it looks a little sunken when it is not lit. I can't help it around here. The psychoframe used fluorescent colors.

Desmod Lighting

You can switch between red and green as you like for the light emission of the psycho frame. RG's LIGHTING MODEL can be switched, but it was a non-movable model, and PG Unicorn 's movable, but it was necessary to prepare two types of red and green.

The light intensity of the LED is quite bright, and you can see the color well even under the lighting of the shooting. You can clearly see the twin eye in this state. The chest and backpack, which felt a little dark with PG, are bright enough.

The frames on the thighs and knees were also quite brightly lit. It is still amazing that this can also be moved.

The frame is very bright with a light close to RG. Both colors are beautiful. I don't mind too much because it reflects the light, but there are still some parts of the armor, such as the chest, that are transparent.

Also, this time it is made to guide the light to the shield, so when Equipped, even the fins will shine perfectly. It didn't light up until now, so this is good. Of course you can still carry your weapon.

In Destroy Mode, depending on the object, various parts are easy to close and there are places where it is difficult to touch, but since it is a latecomer, it has the impression that it is quite easy to touch. All the locks are working fine.

Weaponry and Accessories

The beam saber blade is a standard MG size blade. Of course, Tonfa can also be reproduced. I use an emotion manipulator for the handle, but it is light and has a dowel pin, so it was held firmly.

Also, the holding power was sufficient, and even if I had a Gatling shield, it would not hang down. However, although the shoulder swings, it can't be flipped up, so it might have been easier to pose if this side also moved.

Shield funnel using the stand. This is an LED, so it only emits green light. However, it looks great when it emits light to the shield. The stand has a high degree of freedom, and although the lead wires can be seen, it can be fixed at various angles.

Regarding the light emission of the shield, if the lighting is dimmed, the impression is that the light goes around to the edges, probably because of the mold. By using joint parts and combining the stands, you can also combine the three bases. Of course, all the stand holes can be used, so it will emit light even in this state.

Movability and Articulation

I can't use joint parts, so it's troublesome to adjust the angle, but I was able to assemble the three units without Gatling. The old MG had a strong impression that the legs were long and thin, but this one is thicker and has a larger upper body, giving it a balanced impression.

The hatch on the chest doesn't open very much, so I thought it might be my fault for moving it, but the instruction manual said the same thing.

The old MG is painted, and over the years it has become stiff and deformed quite a bit, so I can't make an accurate comparison. Overall, the EX version has a crisp deformation and no stress.

Also, since the lock has evolved, I had the impression that this one is better at maintaining the shape. As expected, it is sophisticated as it is sandwiched between PG and RG.

Summary

Although it is a new brand called MGEX, it is a very powerful kit. It is a kit that gives the impression of taking the best parts of PG and RG, and while the psycho frame emits red and green light, all joints are movable and you can pose freely. In addition, the LED is also quite bright, and the chest and backpack, which felt a little dark in PG, have a sufficient amount of light and shine quite well when lit. In addition, the unicorn mode's light emission is wonderful, and the light leaking from the gaps in the armor of the whole body has a unique coolness.

Of course, the structure was refined, the transformation was smooth, and the shield was made to emit light, so it was a kit that felt a big evolution from the previous version. However, since it is assembled while sandwiching the sheet, it was necessary to carefully check the instruction manual while assembling so as not to accidentally damage it.

It's expensive and difficult to assemble, but it's packed with the impression of a culmination of Unicorn Gundam kits, and it's a wonderful result that makes you feel that it's evolved further from the previous PG and RG kits.
