P-Bandai action figure Gunpla Robot Tamashii ROBOT魂 Spirits <SIDE MS> RGC-80 GM Cannon [ Jaburo Base Type ] Ver. ANIME Review
This is a review of the ROBOT Spirits GM Cannon Jaburo Base Version ver. A.N.I.M.E. figure. The design is largely based on the previously released GM Cannon, but now with the red-centric color scheme that appeared in Zeta Gundam for the Jaburo base version.
Design and Details
Body: The overall design shares the same structure as the previous GM Cannon figure. The main difference is the red-focused color scheme specific to the Jaburo base version, as seen in Zeta Gundam.
Head: Except for the two antennas, the head is similar to the normal GM, maintaining a simple aesthetic. The visor is made of clear parts, allowing internal detailing to show through. The white headpiece seen in the anime is also included as an accessory, although the sculpt remains the same.
Body Parts: The torso design and coloring are almost identical to the normal GM Cannon, with only slight increases in red accents. The waist area shows the most significant change, with black being replaced entirely by red.
Arms and Legs: The red coloring is more prominent here compared to the standard version. Previously, there was red marking on the sleeves, but this version omits those, resulting in a simpler appearance.
Features and Movement
Cannon Movement: The cannon retains the same articulation range, moving up about 45 degrees and down slightly below horizontal.
Rifles and Weapons: The set includes various weapons such as a beam rifle (with a movable foregrip), 100mm machine gun (with a movable stock and foregrip, along with detachable magazine), beam spray gun, and hyper bazooka. The bazooka can be mounted on the waist using joints, and it includes two bazooka magazines that can also attach to the waist.
Cannon Muzzle and Beam Effects: Two different cannon muzzle types are included for variety. Beam effect parts are also available and can be used with the rifle, spray gun, or other weapons.
Shield: The shield's connection method can be chosen between a joint or grip, similar to the standard GM Cannon. A joint allows for the attachment of the beam spray gun to the back of the shield.
Additional Effects: Optional effect parts, sold separately, can be added to the 100mm machine gun and backpack thrusters.
Comparisons with the Normal GM Cannon
Minor Sculpt Changes: Apart from a slight difference in the neck area, the sculpt is nearly identical to the original GM Cannon. Movement and articulation also remain unchanged, with the lack of newer articulation features like shoulder extension joints reflecting the original 2017 release design. However, the figure allows for decent poses, such as holding the rifle or machine gun with both hands.
Right Shoulder Cannon: The cannon on the right shoulder can adjust angles for aiming, and the figure can easily take a kneeling pose without issue.
Summary
The ROBOT Spirits GM Cannon Jaburo Base Version A.N.I.M.E. stays faithful to the original GM Cannon in terms of design and articulation. The red color scheme, matching the appearance in Zeta Gundam, is well-executed. While the articulation may feel a bit outdated by today's standards, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment, especially given the wide array of weaponry and accessories. With other Jaburo base models like the Gouf Flight Type and GM Sniper Custom being released, there's plenty more to look forward to for fans of these lesser-seen mechs.
