REVIEW MGEX 1/100 ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam, Bandai

This is review of Bandai plastic model kit Gunpla Master Grade Extreme MGEX 1/100 ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Bandai MGEX 1/100 ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam Review

The MGEX series, in which the Unicorn Gundam was made into a kit as the first step. Strike Freedom was made into a kit as the second bullet. The price is 15,400 yen.

Runner and Accessories set

Accessories include left and right high-energy beam rifles, 2 beam shield effects, Kira & Lacus figures, clear twin eye parts, flat hands, movable hands, gun handles, stand joints, action bases, and 2 saber blades.

The joints on the action base runner in the bottom right are parts that can be used freely, and the gold joints in the bottom right are redundant parts that can be removed from the emotion manipulator.

As for stickers, metallic 3D stickers and water transfer decals are included. There is also etching this time. It was easy to install because it was sealed with gateless etching.

There is also a multi-stand made of cardboard, where the runner can be propped up. This time, in addition to the molded color runner, there are 3 color painted runners. The B runner is glossy yellow gold. The C runner is matte copper gold and the D runner is white gold.

Inner Frame

First, let's talk about the frame state. This time, the kit is based on the theme of "Gundam model's highest metal expression", and the internal frame is made with considerable attention.

The gold color is partly molded, but the combination of 3 different colors of gold and silver etching makes it very impressive. In addition, metallic 3D stickers are also used in various places, making it a good accent.

This time, no poly caps are used, and the joints are mostly KPS joints. However, ABS was used only there because the emotion manipulator was also used. The frame of the head is also precisely reproduced, and the twin eyes are made into separate parts and color-coded without stickers.

In addition to the plated twin eyes, clear twin eye parts are also included. However, if it is left as it is, the color will sink considerably like the image, so if you do not paint it, it may be better to use a plating tone.

Photo-etched parts are used for the chest and other parts, giving it a realistic metallic luster. The gold color has a fair amount of molding color, but it has a very complicated expression because there are multiple colors of painted parts.

In addition, the front and rear armor can be deployed from the frame. Of course the cockpit can be opened and closed.

The callidus was arranged in a hexagon. A small etching is also attached to the back. The backpack connection hole was shaped with a dowel and could not be connected to a striker pack.

As for the abdomen, if you swing left and right, the armor of the arrow will move according to the movement. The gap is made invisible. Metallic 3D stickers are also used in places that are hidden by armor. The shoulder armor has a deployment gimmick.

There are details like laminated fins throughout. The mold of the frame is also quite fine. The hip joint can be pulled out and swing is possible. The front armor also has multiple movable points and can be raised greatly.

The frame of the legs is also made with considerable attention. Again, there are details like laminated fins in various places. Numerous etchings are used on the calves. Three thrusters are deployed in conjunction with each other.

As for the ankle, you can also roll the ankle part, but there is also a movable axis above it, and the armor of the arrow moves in conjunction with it. The wings also have fine details and there are quite a lot of molds. The thruster around the backpack is also made with a sense of density.

The whole body is gold, so it's a very impressive figure, but it's an unprecedented frame density, and you'll want to decorate it with just this. Metallic 3D stickers and etchings are often small, so I think it's better to prepare tweezers.

Body Unit

The armor is easy to install and detailed, but it wasn't particularly difficult to remove later. Completion of Strike Freedom with armor attached. This time it has been three-dimensionalized with a solid and massive body.

Also, the armor has been greatly arranged, and it has a very complicated surface structure, and the laminated fin-like details that were characteristic even in the frame state stand out.

Light gray is also used for white armor. It can stand on its own if you put the wings on its side, but there are places where it tends to fall backwards, so it seems better to use a stand when displaying it on a regular basis.

The armor parts are molded in the same color as before, but the frame and etchings are still visible, so it still gives a gorgeous impression. Also, most of the parts use under gates.

Even in state without wings, the sturdy silhouette gives a powerful impression. Of course, the MMI-M15E "Xiphias 3" Railgun can be turned back and the rifle can be mounted sideways.

Comparing MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam vs MG Strike Freedom Gundam

Head Unit

Regarding the head, the color coding is finer, and the twin eyes are also reproduced with molding colors. Also, the antenna was sharper and the slit of the mask was also opened.

Torso Unit

The normal MG has a neat appearance without adding flashy details, but the MGEX has quite complicated details. It is also characteristic that the red parts between the crotch are clear and the internal frame is transparent.

Laminated fin-like detail stands out on the back. The cockpit can be opened and closed, and standing pose Kira and Lacus figures are also included. Deployment gimmick for front and rear waist armor. It expands like this without replacement.

Arm Unit

The design has changed to a more rugged design, and the side thruster ducts have a deeper structure. The red part on the tip of the shoulder is also a clear part.

Deployment gimmick of the shoulder. The light gray plate is also movable. As for the arms, in addition to the fixed wrists, there is also an emotion manipulator, so you can create detailed expressions.

The beam shield was also arranged quite a bit, and part of it was also made of clear parts.

Legs Unit

The volume of the legs, such as around the knees, is increased at once. On the contrary, the ankle is compact and accentuated. Also, when you bend your knees, the thigh and knee armor will work together. The thrusters on the calves are deployed in unison. Of course, there is no meat removal on the soles.

Wing Backpack Unit

The backpack also has a more luxurious design around the nozzle, and the photo-etched parts are a nice accent. The mobile weapons wing also has a more rugged shape.

Of course, there is also a gimmick that slides the dragoon connection base, but the outer black parts are also designed to open. The gold part of Super Dragoon has increased and sharpness has been added. The seams are also stepped. This dragoon has 4 small metallic 3D stickers attached to it, but be careful not to lose them as they are quite small.

The height hasn't changed much, but the amount of detail has increased at once, and the density has increased significantly.

Movability and Articulation

This time, we will introduce the movable range and weapons. Regarding the movable range, although the body shape has become rough, it is moving more than the MG version of Strike Freedom.

The neck also rises considerably and the elbows bend deeply. In addition, the shoulder can be pulled out and it is possible to swing widely. You can swing your abdomen sideways and you don't have to worry about gaps.

The lower body is more mobile and the grounding is improved. The waist armor also rises well and does not get in the way. The left and right wings can not only rotate, but also open in an inverted V shape.

In addition, the armor also moves finely according to the movement. The back side of the helmet jumps up to point upwards.

The armor also slides according to the swing of the waist. The gap is made invisible as much as possible. The hip joint also moves in a complicated way, but there is also a movable axis at the base of the thigh, making it easier to close the legs.

The stand joint is a type that attaches to the back. Since an action base is also included, it can be stably floated.

The gold frame exposure increases and it becomes more flashy. When the black part of the wing is also expanded, it becomes a more spiky silhouette.

Weaponry

The MGEX version is made with clear parts such as sensors that stand out. The metallic seal is also a good accent. In addition, the seams were also molded with a stepped drop. The rifle has fixed handles on both the left and right sides and can be held stably by fixing with dowels.

The MMI-M15E "Xiphias 3" Railgun can also be deployed neatly without any particular flickering. The base of the beam shield expands like this, and it is fixed by sandwiching the PET effect.

The gun barrel has become thicker and has a slightly unfolded appearance, but the gold part has increased. The muzzle was also more complex.

It is easy to interfere with the shoulder etc., but it can escape to some extent because the base moves. Since it is made of PET material, it is light and does not interfere with holding, and the printing and modeling are beautiful and worth seeing.

Rifles can be connected without replacement. The gun barrel also expands and contracts without replacement. Also, clear parts are used for the deployable sensors, and the gun barrels have the same structure, so the instruction manual says that only one can be extended, but I was able to extend both.

It has a movable hand, so it's easy to follow, but the Emotion Manipulator is delicate, and if your pinky finger comes off while you're moving something, you'll lose it all at once and you'll be able to get it off, so be careful when moving it. Is required.

The MA-M02G "Super Lacerta" Beam Saber can be held without the grip. The blade is an orthodox clear blade and is held by the dowel of the emotion manipulator so it will not fall off.

In addition, connection is possible without replacement. Of course, Super Dragoon is removable, but it doesn't have a stand, so it's a little troublesome to float it. Even on a dark background. This time, under gates were used a lot, and the traces of the gates were not visible as much as possible.

It is a fairly heavy kit due to the density of the frame, but there is no problem with the holding power so far. It's easy to accidentally drop the saber grip attached to the side of Xiphias 3 when touched.

Summary

This time, it is a kit that puts emphasis on metal expression, and etching is used in addition to painted runners in three colors for the frame. Many of the MG frames so far have been detailed, but the MGEX has a higher density, and the interlocking gimmicks of the armor are built in various places, making it very particular.

However, since the entire frame is not painted, there are some places where the molding color comes out. Also, unlike the MG version, it has a massive and powerful style, and the arrangement is quite strong.

Armor with clear parts that allow you to see the frame and armor that has been arranged intricately are also worth seeing. The under gate is used a lot and there are many parts, so it is difficult to assemble, but it was a kit with very elaborate and fulfilling contents.
